Notice on Organizing the 2025 National Maritime Science Popularization Season

To all CIN Maritime Science Education Bases, Branches, and Relevant Units

In accordance with the Notice on the CIN 2025 Key Science Popularization Work Plan (Document of CIN [2025] No. 27), and with the aim of promoting the maritime exploration spirit of the new era, popularizing scientific knowledge, inspiring maritime dreams, and improving public maritime literacy to foster a society that understands and cherishes maritime culture, the China Institute of Navigation will organize the 2025 National Maritime Science Popularization Season. Relevant details are outlined below. All participating units are requested to plan and implement activities based on local conditions.

I. Duration & Theme

The 2025 National Maritime Science Popularization Season will take place from July to September 2025, under the theme "Sailing Toward the Future: Exploring New Horizons". Activities may align with China Maritime Day (July 11) and National Science Popularization Month (September).

The opening ceremony of the National Maritime Science Popularization Season is scheduled to take place at the South China Sea Museum in Qionghai City, Hainan Province on the morning of July 10. The closing ceremony will be held during the National Science Popularization Month in late September 2025, with specific arrangements to be announced separately.

II. Key Activities

All bases, branches, and participating organizations are encouraged to leverage their resources and platforms to conduct multi-level, multi-dimensional, and diverse maritime science education and publicity activities in communities, enterprises, schools, and other venues. Suggested activities include:

       1. Maritime Science Lecture Series

Mobilize experts, researchers, and volunteers to deliver engaging lectures at universities, communities, and businesses.

       2. Open House Events at Maritime Science Centers

Science education bases should host public open days during China Maritime Day and National Science Popularization Month. Other institutions may open their doors to specific groups of people when conditions permit. Meanwhile, all participating units should organize their staff and volunteers to actively disseminate maritime knowledge, promote maritime culture, and enhance public awareness and scientific literacy.

3. Organizing summer camps for the popularization of maritime science

Focusing on the elements of maritime navigation and marine culture, and relying on the resources of the unit, as well as maritime science education bases, local museums, science and technology museums, ports and terminals, etc., it organizes and carries out summer camps on maritime science for young people during the summer.

4. Carrying out competitions on popularization of maritime science

Encourage all relevant units to actively organize and carry out competitions on maritime science popularization. Enhance the public's understanding of the history and culture of navigation, especially among young people, and increase their interest in navigation. 

5. Carry out the activity of “water safety education in schools”

Organize and mobilize volunteers from various units to give lectures on water life-saving and drowning prevention to students in colleges and universities during the summer or the start of the school year.

6. Collecting works of calligraphy and painting by primary and secondary school students on the 4th China Sea Day

As one of the series of popular science activities on the Maritime Day, all relevant units, especially enterprises, institutions and schools in the places where the main events of the Maritime Day are held, are invited to widely organize young people to actively submit their works (see Annex 2 for the specific plan). Eligible works will be centrally displayed in the South China Sea Museum and online on the official website of the China Nautical Society during the China Sea Day 2025.

III. Activity Requirements

       1. The maritime science popularization education bases, branches and relevant member units of the Society should strengthen the organization and leadership, enhance the synergy and cooperation, and actively organize and carry out relevant activities in light of the actual situation;

       2. Play the role of science and technology workers, science volunteers and experts in science popularization, and do the necessary security services to carry out the work of science popularization;

       3. Focusing on the theme of the popularization season, focusing on the needs and expectations of the public, and promoting the popularization season activities to serve the public and achieve tangible results;

       4. Make full use of the new media platform, strengthen the linkage with the media, innovate publicity methods and means, carry out multi-channel publicity, and stimulate the enthusiasm of the whole society, especially the youth, to love the sea and navigation.

       5. Make good records and summaries of the activities, and submit the images, pictures, publicity reports and other information about the activities to the Society before October 15, 2025. The Society will arrange for promotion and publicity on the official website, public number and Science Popularization China APP and other platforms.

IV. Others

Please make plans and arrangements for the activities during the 2025 National Popularization of Maritime Science Season and fill in the “2025 National Popularization of Maritime Science Season Activity Plan Form”, and send it back to the following designated email address before May 31st.
