The 2nd Beijing International Sailing Regatta & Beijing Open Sailing Tournament Held in Qinglong Lake, Fangshan

In order to further promote the development of sports in Beijing and Fangshan district and create the only local sailing event in Beijing, the 2nd Beijing International Sailing Regatta and  Beijing Open Sailing Tournament, sponsored by Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sports, Fangshan district government, China Institute of Navigation and Beijing Sports Association, undertook by the Secretariat of Beijing Sports Association, Fangshan District Bureau of Sports, Fangshan Water Authority and Fangshan Qinglonghu town and initiated by Zhai Mo, China’s first person to sail around the world, was held from October 24 to 25, 2020 in Qinglong lake, Fangshan.

There were two levels in this sailing regatta: adult group and youth group. The adult group adopted DC20 sailing boat and the youth group adopted OP sailing boat. A total of 8 adult teams and 10 youngsters participated, including sailing clubs and foreign friends who live and study in Beijing all year round, as well as sailing enthusiasts and youngsters from universities such as Peking University and China Agricultural University. During the regatta, the organizing committee and CCTV News launched a variety of public science popularization activities on the event site and online platform, such as sailing culture, sailing knowledge and public sailing experience, so that more citizens and netizens could participate in them. New Media Center of CCTV News conducted a full live broadcast and all media pushed on the first day of the event, with 8.17 million people watching the live broadcast.

Leaders of China Institute of Navigation, Chinese Yachting Association, Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sports, Beijing Fangshan District People’s Government and other units attended the opening ceremony. After two days of intense and fierce competition, the China Agricultural University sailing team won the championship, the China Media sailing team won the second place, and the Sailor sailing team won the third place. In the youth group, Cao Yin won the championship, Tan Ye won the second place, and Feng Shengchen won the third place.

The hosting of the 2nd Beijing International Sailing Regatta and the Beijing Open Sailing Tournament is of great significance to popularize and enhance Beijing citizens’ maritime awareness, nautical culture and sailing sports, and enrich the cultural life of the citizens of the capital. As the only international sailing sports event in Beijing, it has received continuous attention and praise from all walks of life in the capital. Major media such as CCTV, Xinhua News Agency, People’s Daily and other major media have fully reported the event.
