Yangshan Deep-water Port Phase Ⅳ Enters Equipment Joint Debugging Period and Trial Operation Will Put into Practice Next Year

It is informed that, Yangshan Deep-water Port Phase IV is entering equipment joint debugging and production capacity is expected to be primarily reached by the end of 2017, which will become a worldwide automated terminal with the largest scale and the most advanced equipment to further consolidate Shanghai’s position as the world biggest port.

It’s acknowledged that the construction and operation of Yangshan Phase IV automated terminal play an important role in national comprehensive transport system and become the vital component of the modern logistics center in Yangtze River delta, in favor of consolidating the position of Shanghai port as the main coastal port of our country and the container mainline port; it also lays an functional basis for industrial restructuring, production forces layout improvement and regional economy integration in Shanghai and Yangtze River delta.

Yan Jun, Deputy Party Secretary and Director of Shanghai International Port Co.,Ltd (hereinafter referred to as the SIPG) said that in the light of the application of the advanced technologies and innovation of operation management model such as intelligent control, green and low carbon tech as well as energy saving tech, the container throughput of Shanghai port will be improved and be more efficient and the capacity to serve Yangtze River delta, Yangtze valley and the country will be significantly increased so as to further highlight the position of Shanghai port as the pivot and the center of river-ocean combined transportation.

To further build the Shanghai port, SIPG has initiated an innovative operational mode--Integrated Electronic Register Operation. There are nearly forty thousand vehicles operated in Shanghai port and due to the randomness of their operation of delivering and carrying the boxes, terminals in the port area cannot estimate the operation volume which leads to the alternate operating congestion and idle time. Meanwhile the information asymmetry and the lack of integrated credit service system, the mismatch of vehicles and the logistics needs leads to the resource wastes and low efficiency. Through the centralized and one-stop standard information register as well as the joint service provided by the Integrated Electronic Register Operation, there have been currently nearly a thousand trucks registered that are qualified to order to carry laden box. By means of carrying out the related businesses such as laden box delivery and empty box carriage, the working efficiency of the terminal and the truck fleet will be substantially improved.

Besides, SIPG has also established the operating center to improve the customer experience. Since the innovative application of “Internet Plus” and the establishment of port business center in August 2015, by means of standardized procedures, one-stop service, integrated settlement and informational experience which uniquely featured by Shanghai port, the period to complete a business has been reduced from 30 mins to 3 mins, documentary secretaries have been refined by 40% and the relevant labor cost has been reduced by 60% which significantly cut the logistics cost of the companies.

Yan Jun said that the port business center constructs an integrated service platform among ports, shipping companies, cargo owners, agents and port authorities. By means of the combination of online and offline services, the problems that customers used to run back and forth between ports area and several other related departments and they had to queue repeatedly for the business have been solved for good which greatly improves the customer experience, service efficiency and the port environment and receives positive social response.

This year is the 10th anniversary of the overall listing of SIPG. Over the past ten years, Shanghai container throughput has increased from 21.71 million TEU to 36.53 million TEU, occupying the world first for six consecutive years. At the end the 13th Five Year plan, the annual container throughput is expected to excess 40million TEU, the proportion of the profits of the core business and diversified business will be optimized and adjusted to 5:5 in the commitment to form a New Look with more development potential. In the future, depending on the reform conducted in the Free Trade Zone, Shanghai port will further integrate the industry chain of upstream and downstream of the port to consolidate its position as the international pivot.
