China Institute of Navigation Successfully Holds 2025 Magnetic Compass Technical Service Conference

On November 19, 2025, China Institute of Navigation successfully convened  2025 Magnetic Compass Technical Service Conference in Beijing.  

The meeting was presided over by Liu Shun, Secretary-General of the institute. Attendees include Li Shixin, Executive Vice Chairman of China Institute of Navigation, representatives delegated by the Seafarers Department of the Maritime Safety Administration under the Ministry of Transport, and 22 participants, such as  secretaries-general from regional magnetic compass branches, branch supervisors, and technical staff involved in the magnetic compass calibration information system.  

Secretary-General Liu Shun extended a warm welcome to the representatives from regional branches and expressed sincere gratitude to the Maritime Safety Administration for its long-term guidance and support. He emphasized that the conference served not only as a review of the work over the past six years but also as a motivation for promoting high-quality development in future endeavors. He called for extensive exchange of experiences and consensus-building to enhance magnetic compass technical services. Jiang Sheng, head of the Magnetic Compass Headquarters, delivered a report entitled “Magnetic Compass Technical Service Work Report of China Institute of Navigation (2020-2025),” systematically summarizing achievements and analyzing current challenges in technical services and management.  

Representatives from the Seafarers Department congratulated the institute on hosting the conference and underscored the importance of adhering to safety standards, improving institutional frameworks, promoting standardization and informatization in calibration work, and strengthening the professional development of technical personnel to drive high-quality growth in magnetic compass services.  

Ten regional branches of Jiangsu, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Hebei, Fujian, Zhejiang, Guangxi, Shandong, Tianjin, and Xiamen, reported on their practical achievements and shared distinctive experiences in magnetic compass calibration services and operational management over the past six years.  

In the concluding remarks, Executive Vice Chairman Li Shixin thanked the Maritime Safety Administration for its ongoing support and outlined five key directives to address existing shortcomings: enhancing technical service quality, deepening service management systems, strengthening the professionalism of calibration personnel, optimizing the calibration information system, and addressing management fees for the institute’s headquarters.  

The discussion session was lively, in which representatives from various branches actively contributed suggestions on revising management measures for magnetic compass certification and optimizing evaluation mechanisms. The productive exchanges achieved the conference’s objectives and laid a solid foundation for future improvements.
