Emergency Drill Held for Ships Carrying “New Three” Cargo

Recently, the 2025 emergency response drill for the safe transport of containers carrying “New Three” cargo (including lithium batteries, electric vehicles, and photovoltaic products) was conducted in the waters of the Yangtze River Estuary. The drill was jointly organized by the Shanghai Maritime Safety Administration and the Shanghai Emergency Management Bureau.

This drill primarily focused on the fire characteristics of lithium battery cargo and key points in emergency response. It aimed to evaluate and improve multi-department coordination in responding to new maritime risks in Shanghai waters. Over 150 personnel participated in the exercise, in which four maritime patrol vessels and various maritime equipment were also deployed. The drill effectively tested Shanghai Port’s capabilities to respond to risks associated with these emerging types of cargo.
