On November 11, the 2024 Forum on Collaborative Development of Navigation Science and Technology Across the Taiwan Strait and Hong Kong-Macao Regions was held in Xiamen, Fujian. He Jianzhong, president of CIN, Tian Wenguo, president of the Chinese Navigation Technology Research Association in Taiwan, Yang Kaiqiang, vice chairman of the Hong Kong Seamen’s Union, Wang Jian, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Committee and vice president of Jimei University, and Zhao Jing, deputy secretary of the CPC Committee of WUT, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. The forum was hosted by Yang Shenhua, dean of the Navigation College of Jimei University.

He stressed the need to prioritize the development of green power technology, deepen the innovative development model of shipping, promote the integration of the industrial chain and innovation chain, and transform the vision of enjoyable travel for passengers and smooth transport of goods into new products and new business format through cloud computing, big data, blockchain, artificial intelligence, etc., to form a new mode of development and enhance the new value of shipping. He also pointed out that it is necessary to strengthen talents cultivation the construction of innovation platforms to adapt to the comprehensive demands of intelligent shipping for knowledge in navigation technology, artificial intelligence, big data, etc., to stimulate the potential of new quality productive forces in shipping and forge a strong engine for high-quality development. At the opening ceremony of the forum, the Navigation Institute and the School of Marine Engineering of Jimei University signed a framework agreement on collaborative research in shipping technology with the College of Maritime of NationalKaohsiung University of Science and Technologyin Taiwan,. The agreement aims to provide more practical, teaching and exchange opportunities for faculty and students in the fields of navigation and marine engineering, to strengthen the cooperation in maritime talents cultivation, scientific research, social services, etc., and to achieve the complementation and common development.

Participants analyzed the challenges and opportunities, explored the path and direction of technological innovation, and to promoted the cooperation and development of the shipping industry among Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau, and worked together to achieve high-level self-reliance and strength in maritime technology.

Zhang Hongyi, Professor in the Department of Marine Engineering at National Taiwan Ocean University, presented a report titled “Research on Ceramic Hydrogen Fuel Cells for Marine Engines and Power Generation.”
Shen Yunqiao, Associate Professor at Macau University of Science and Technology, gave a report titled “High-quality Development and Future Prospects of Maritime Arbitration.”
In the afternoon, participating experts and representatives visited the Xiamen Ocean Gate Container Terminal and engaged in discussions on the needs for maritime science and technology cooperation among Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau.

The Cross-Strait, Hong Kong and Macau Maritime Science and Technology Collaborative Development Forum, approved by the Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan Affairs Office of the China Association for Science and Technology, was launched in 2022 and this year marks its third session. The forum is jointly organized by the China Institute of Navigation, the China Marine Institute, the Association of Marine Affairs Chinese (AMA), The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the Hong Kong Seamen's Union, and the Macau University of Science and Technology, co-hosted by Jimei University, Wuhan University of Technology, and the Fujian Navigation Institute. Over the past three years, the forum has been widely welcomed by all parties in the shipping industry in Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau and has become an important high-end academic exchange platform for promoting exchanges and cooperation in the shipping industry across the Taiwan Strait, Hong Kong and Macau.
