Notice on Call for Navigation Science and Technology Papers and Posters

of China Institute of Navigation 2022

All professional committees, local institutes and nautical science and technology workers:

In response to the national call to build a strong country in marine and transportation, and to actively promote academic development in the field of navigation, the China Institute of Navigation (hereinafter referred to as “CIN”) plans to hold an annual academic conference during the Activity Week of 2022 Maritime Day of China (July 10 to July 16 in Dalian), and to conduct academic paper presentations, poster presentations and the Outstanding Papers of Maritime Science and Technology Award. The annual academic conference this year will further expand the scale of paper exchange and focus on improving academic standards. The call for Navigation Science and Technology Papers is hereby launched and the relevant matters are notified as follows:

Ⅰ. Essay Topics

(i) Technology of Navigation and Transportation Safety;

(ii) Technology of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering;

(iii) Intelligent Technology of Water Environmental Protection;

(iv) Technology of Channel and Port Engineering;

(v) Navigation Support Technology;

(vi) Shipping Management Technology;

(vii) Maritime Law and Navigational Culture;

(viii) Other Contents Relating to Marine Technology.

Ⅱ. Paper Collection and Recommendation

The activity is mainly for the academic exchanges of the annual academic conference, including paper presentations and poster presentations.

Paper Exchanges and Presentations. The paper exchanges and presentations is a traditional activity of the annual academic conference of CIN. Specifically, CIN evaluates the submitted papers and invites the authors of outstanding ones to participate in the activities of annual academic conference. The invited authors are eligible to participate in the 2022 Outstanding Papers of Maritime Science and Technology Award. Both published and unpublished papers are eligible to participate in the selection and the submission methods are as follows:

1. Papers that not yet published or published in journals other than Navigation of China or Marine Technology may be submitted to local institutes of navigation or professional committees of CIN (hereinafter referred to as “recommending institutions”, see Annex 1 and 2 for contact details). From the date of this notice, each recommending institution may also mobilize relevant units and individuals to actively participate in the submission of papers, and organize experts to carry out preliminary examination of the papers. The condition, reviewing process, participated experts, comments, conclusions and the registration form (see Annex 3 for details) should be submitted in written form by May 20, 2022 to the email address xsnh2022@ cinnet.cn, with no more than six recommendations.

2. Papers that have been published in Navigation of China or Marine Technology in 2021 will be submitted directly to the mailbox xsnh2022@cinnet.cn by their first author.

(ii) Poster Presentations. This year's academic conference has added a new communication format, which is, poster presentations. Authors can display their research results by posting wall posters inside and outside the venue and participate in the evaluation. The poster should be designed and produced according to the prescribed template (see Annex 4 for details). As it needs to be produced as a large colour wall poster, a production cost fee of approximately RMB 300 will be charged upon selection. Papers that have not yet been published or have been published in Navigation of China or Marine Technology in 2021 are eligible to participate in the evaluation and are submitted as follows:

1. Authors who have submitted their papers and wish to make a poster for the exhibition, please indicate "Yes" in the "Will you also participate in the poster exhibition" column in Annex 3.

2. For those authors who will only participate in the poster presentation, please submit the original paper, the original poster images and two letters of recommendation (from two experts with senior titles, at least one of which has a full senior title) to the email address “2022 Annual Conference poster - paper title” (see Annex 5 for details).

Ⅲ. Papers Selection and Awards

(i) Review of Papers

The Secretariat of CIN will establish an expert review committee based on the paper recommendations to review the recommended papers. The quality papers from the review process will be recommended to the Secretariat of the Annual Academic Conference 2022 and the shortlisted authors will be invited to give on-site presentations or poster presentations.

(ii) Presentation and Recognition

The invited authors may give lectures or poster presentations during the Annual Academic Conference in 2022. After the evaluation by the review committee, the proposed list of the first, second and third prizes of the Outstanding Navigational Scientific and Technical Papers of CIN in 2022 and the list of the Outstanding Wall Posters will be produced. After the publicity, approval and other prescribed procedures, they will be determined and announced officially. CIN will award certificates and prize to the authors. Unpublished award-winning papers will be recommended for publication in Navigation of China or Marine Technology.

Ⅳ. Other Requirements

(i) All recommending units shall fully do a good job in the publicity and mobilization of the papers at local and professional areas, and should also pay attention to the contact with key units and the cultivation of the writer group.

(ii) The collection and recommendation work should be strictly checked and standardized. Specifically, we should adhere to the principles of fairness, impartiality and openness, avoid duplicate submissions, strictly investigate academic misconduct, and pay attention to the system of avoidance for assessment experts.

(iii) The deadline for submission of the review results by the recommending institutions is May 20, 2022, and the deadline for submission of papers that have published in Navigation of China or Marine Technology in 2021 is also the same.
