China Classification Society's Inspected Fleet Surpasses 200 Million Gross Tons

Recently, China Classification Society (CCS) has issued an inspection certificate for COSCO Shipping Lines' 14,100 TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit) container vessel, "COSCO Shipping Mexico," marking a significant milestone as CCS's inspected fleet has surpassed 200 million gross tons.

Since its inception, CCS, as the national and leading force in vessel inspection, has continuously strengthened its capabilities in fleet size, technology, service, management, and internationalization. Its technological leadership and vessel inspection services have played a pivotal role in promoting the development of China's shipping, shipbuilding industries, as well as offshore resource exploitation and marine equipment manufacturing sectors. This achievement has provided vital support for accelerating the construction of a maritime power and a transportation power, and for high-quality cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, contributing positively to economic and social development. Notably, since surpassing 100 million gross tons in 2016, CCS's inspected fleet has entered a period of rapid and comprehensive growth, essentially achieving full coverage of mainstream vessel types, including large cruise ships, large LNG carriers, large pure car carriers, ultra large crude carriers, and ultra large ore carriers.

It is noteworthy that based on its preliminarily established green ecological technology standard system, CCS has successfully completed the design approval, construction, and operational inspection of a series of new energy vessels, including China's first hydrogen fuel cell vessel, the world's largest battery-powered vessel with the highest battery capacity, the world's largest battery-swappable container vessel, a 700 TEU electric container vessel for the Changjiang River main channel, and a 16,000 TEU methanol-powered large container vessel.

In the congratulatory message to the 2021 Beiputan International Shipping Forum, President Xi Jinping emphasized that the shipping industry is a crucial pillar for international trade development and an important bond connecting people worldwide. Looking ahead, CCS will uphold the new development paradigm in a complete, accurate, and comprehensive manner, accelerate the cultivation and development of new productive forces, promote high-quality development in depth, and strive to build a world-class China Classification Society.
