Standing at the Fuzhou port and looking over the fence, seagulls flying over the vast ocean. On the wharf, the sound of car horns, the whistle of lifting cargo and the sea vessel intertwine together, forming a beautiful symphony...Since this year, Fujian Port Group has given full play to the role of political leadership for the system at all levels of leading cadres to carry out the thematic training of “learning and implementing the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress to promote Fujian port high-quality development”, study and implement Xi Jinping’s thought on socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era, and transfer the effectiveness of theoretical learning into a powerful force for port development in the new stage.
Recently, Shanghai International Shipping Institute released the 2022 global port throughput ranking. Fuzhou Port and Xiamen Port rank the world’s top 30, and Xiamen Port, Fuzhou Port and Quanzhou Port are elected as the world’s top 100 container ports. From January to April this year, Fujian Port Group completed 127 million tons of cargo throughput, 4.5% year-on-year growth; 4.28 million TEUs of container throughput, 4.2% year-on-year growth.
“Maritime Silk Road” alliance members more than 300
This year’s government work report clearly points that it is necessary to build an efficient and smooth logistics system. In this regard, Fujian Port Group continues to improve the efficiency of port operations and collection and distribution, stabilize the supply of capacity for export routes, and make every effort to build a more resilient port logistics supply chain.
A few days ago, at Songyu operation area of Xiamen Port, three super-large container ships were docked at berth loading and unloading cargo, blue ships in turn, red and white bridge crane boom, the container truck back and forth.
It is understood that the berthing of the three ships were “Maersk Mike Kenemueller”, “Elinorna Maersk”, “Gurnovo Maersk”,all of which are ultra-large container ships over 150,000 tons. This is the first time to achieve three ultra-large container ships of 150,000 tons or more in line for the operation at Xiamen Port. After the completion of loading and unloading operations, two of the giant ships, with Chinese products, were heading for Singapore, Malaysia, Morocco and other important ports in countries and regions along the “Belt and Road”.
Since this year, Fujian port has expanded its global route service network, explored ocean-going and near-ocean direct shipping routes, solidly promoted the integrated development of port, industry and city, and achieved a stable start of domestic and foreign trade.
CHEN Zhiping, President of Fujian Port Group and Fujian Silk Road Maritime Operation Co., Ltd, said that as the first shipping-themed “Belt and Road” international integrated logistics service brand and platform, “Maritime Silk Road” is constantly expanding the scope of policy communication and strategic cooperation, and improving the level of facility connectivity and the stable construction of information platform. It has more than 300 alliance members, more than 10,000 named routes, more than 12 million TEU of container throughput, and has become an important force that cannot be ignored in the high-quality construction of “Belt and Road” and global shipping pattern.
Create a double channel for import and export of whole vehicles
By promoting the regional integration of ports in the province, Fujian Port Group has formed a “chess” pattern of staggered development and one port in one city, better promoting the integration of port, industry and city and driving regional economic development.
On May 9, the berth No. 7 of Zhangwan operation area in Sanduao port area of Fuzhou port ushered in “Anji 23” ro-ro ship, marking the official opening of “Ningde-Israel Eilat port” ro-ro shipping route. The vehicle carried were not only 700 MG brand new energy cars from SAIC Ningde base, but also 25 Jinlong brand new energy buses from Xiamen, adding a new channel for Fujian’s export of foreign trade cars on roll-on/roll-off.
As China’s auto industry grows and develops, export demand of domestic auto is strong and keeps growing vigorously Fujian Port Group has accelerated the building of double- channel for import and export of whole vehicles and promoted the diversified development of port business. The Jiangyin Port District and Sanduao Port District have launched a new business of foreign trade automobile ro-ro export, providing a new convenient and efficient export channel for “Fuzhou-built” automobiles. Since this year, the foreign trade car throughput of Sanduao Port District has reached 2,689 units.
In order to increase efforts to expand the supply market Fujian Port Group has also actively developed import and export cargo in Hubei, Jiangxi and northwest Fujian hinterland, and continued to expand the “Converting bulk to container carriers ” sea-rail intermodal business. In the first four months of this year, Fujian Port Group sea-rail intermodal container volume increased 125% year-on-year, more importers and exporters enjoy the convenience of “port at the factory entrance”.
QIU Zhipeng, deputy manager of the container business department of Fujian Port Group and manager of business development of Xiamen Container Terminal Group, said that “Jiangyin-Haicang”, “Ningde-Xiamen” and other express services will be launched in the future, and they will continuously weaving the southeast coastal branch shipping network, making great contribution to developing hinterland economy, and helping Fujian Province to accelerate the construction of domestic and international double-loop important nodes channels.
