The 18th China Maritime Day Comes with Wonderful Highlights in Activity Week

July 11 is the 18th China Maritime Day. Recently, the Ministry of Transport issued the Opinions on the Activities of the 18th China Maritime Day in 2022. Yi Jiyong, head of the Water Transport Bureau of the Ministry of Transport, introduced the activities on this year's Maritime Day at the press conference of the State Council Information Office held in the morning of June 27.

"Leading the new trend of green, low-carbon and smart navigation" is the theme of China Maritime Day activities this year, which is consistent with the theme of World Maritime Day activities for 2022—"New Technology Supports Green Shipping". China Maritime Day is also the time when World Maritime Day implemented in China.

Yi Jiyong said, in order to further enhance the carrying capacity, brand power and influence of China Maritime Day activities, this year's activities will focus on the formation of "China Maritime Day Activity Week" with the China Maritime Forum as the leader. The Activity Week will be held from July 10 to 16 with richer content and more diverse forms.

Firstly, the forum will be richer in content and have wider coverage. The main forum will invite authoritative experts, scholars and industry representatives from home and abroad to give speeches, and the organizing committee office will join hands with relevant trade unions, societies and associations to issue an initiative letter, vigorously promoting the spirit of navigation in the new era at the main forum. The nine sub-forums covered topics such as ship technology and safety, seafarers, port and shipping enterprise development, maritime culture, development of the Northeast Asia International Shipping Centre, marine ecology, ships and marine equipment, water transport construction and dredging, International Day for Women in Maritime, etc. It will also be the first time for authorities like the Chinese Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers and the Chinese Society for Oceanography to host the sub-forums.

Secondly, new academic nautical exchanges have been added. During the week, the annual academic conference of the China Institute of Navigation will be held to exchange papers, conduct seminars and other academic activities, and also release nautical research results and award nautical science and technology prizes.

Thirdly, the contents of nautical science popularization have been strengthened. The China Institute of Navigation, together with relevant institutions and units, will jointly organize the national "Nautical Science Popularization Week" activities, and organize the national nautical science popularization knowledge competitions, popularization lectures on the theme of "Craftsman tells about navigation", the Open Day of nautical bases, and the maritime-related  painting and calligraphy competition for primary and secondary school students.

Fourthly, for the first time, a nautical science and technology expo will be organised. This year's expo, affected by the pandemic, will be in the form of an online cloud exhibition, through the online exhibition hall on the website of CIN, focusing on nautical science and technology innovation, transformation of results and scientific and technological products, highlighting the theme of innovation-driven and technology-empowered achieverments.
