Ningbo Maritime Safety Administration Makes Every Effort to Ensure the Orderly Operation of the Port

At 17:00 p.m. on April 25, with the lifting of the fog navigation traffic control in the shrimp chipping door channel of Ningbo Zhoushan Port, 14 large container ships including "Maersk Seville" and "Mediterranean Livorno” smoothly began to enter and exit the port, and Ningbo Zhoushan Port fully resumed operations.

• It is reported that affected by the recent alternating cold and warm air, since April 21, Ningbo coastal fog situation intensified. At 6:00 a.m. on April 24, the National Meteorological Center of CMA issued a yellow warning for heavy fog with visibility less than 1 km in the waters around the Yangtze River Estuary and Hangzhou Bay, as well as along the coasts of northern Zhejiang province and Fujian province. From April 21st to the 25th, Traffic restrictions were imposed at Ningbo Zhoushan Port from Monday to Thursday due to poor visibility, affecting about 650 ships.

• It is understood that, in order to do good job in response to the fog and ensure the smooth flow of water freight logistics chain, the maritime, port, pilotage, meteorological and other departments have set up work panels. They will seize the window period to plan and develop key ship evacuation program according to the real-time changes of fog through models like bringing the checkpoint forward and centralizing the office. By seizing the "window" of improved visibility, the plan took advantage of means such as "batch and section", "double-check piloting", "precise fog navigation" to give priority to ensuring the concentrated evacuation of daily necessities ships and container liners. As of press time, 540 ships have entered and left the port, including 81 large container ships, with a total of 405,000 TEU of containers loaded and unloaded, of which 151,900 TEU were loaded and unloaded in a single day on the 21st, reaching a record high.

• At the same time, in order to actively respond to the increased pressure brought from water traffic safety and port pandemic prevention due to the concentrated entry and exit of ships, Ningbo Maritime Safety Administration will further strengthen the closed-loop management of early warning and prevention information and the inspection of verifying the international sailing ships entering and leaving the port, and resolutely win the tough battles to ensure the smooth flow of freight and logistics under the fog and epidemic situation.
