On September 24, the sixth Transportation Technology Cloud Forum Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology application in transportation was successfully held. This Cloud Forum was hosted by the Science and Technology Department and the Science and Research Institute of the Ministry of Transport. It combined online and offline methods and invited 6 experts from scientific research institutes, universities and enterprises. Thematic exchanges were conducted around the achievements in traffic digitalization, innovation and practice of BIM forward design in highway engineering, application of BIM technology in the full life cycle of transportation infrastructure, safety control of bridge construction based on BIM technology, intelligent monitoring and early warning of bridge structure, etc.
In recent years, with the increasingly urgent demand for digitalization and information technology application in our transportation infrastructure construction, BIM technology research and development applications have been actively carried out across China. The Ministry of Transport has also promoted the development and application of BIM technology by identifying industry R&D centers and implementing transportation technology demonstration projects. Under the joint promotion of the industry, BIM technology has been applied more and more in the construction of major transportation projects, which has played a positive role in improving the quality and safety level of transportation infrastructure construction.
During the Cloud Forum, Lin Qiang, deputy director of the Department of Science and Technology of the Ministry of Transport, said that promoting the integration of BIM and transportation is one of the important tasks to accelerate the construction of a strong transportation country. The promotion of the application of BIM technology research and development and the acceleration of the development of data resources to improve transportation is of great importance to enhance the level of intelligent development of transportation, support the creation of "four first-class" and promote the high-quality development of transportation.
The transportation industry should carry out independent research and development centering on BIM basic software and application software and coding system supporting multi-types of user participation, and continuously improve the independent research and development ability and level of BIM technological innovation chain in accordance with the requirements of the CPC Central Committee on realizing high-level scientific self-reliance and self-improvement.
According to the data provided by China Transport’s Weibo and Kuaishou accounts, a total of 1.29 million people from the related business departments and related units, provincial transport science and technology management departments, universities, transport enterprises, related personnel in major research platform participated in the event on the Internet at the same time, reaching a record high since the start of the Transportation Technology Cloud Forum.
