On March 24, Tianjin research institute for water transport engineering, Ministry of Transport (hereinafter referred to as the Institute) held a symposium on the construction and development of scientific research facilities. At the convention, it summarized the achievements and experiences of the construction of scientific research facilities of large-scale hydrodynamic Experimental Center (port base) in the past 10 years, and planned to build first-class facilities, first-class technology, first-class management and service during the 14th Five-Year Plan Period.
Gao Hongfeng, the former Vice Minister of the Ministry of Transport, expressed his appreciation of the achievements of scientific research facilities by supporting the scientific research innovation since the 12th Five-Year Plan and expressed his hope for the scientific research and innovation work in the 14th Five-Year plan. He noted that the "14th Five-Year plan" is a critical period for China to build a new development pattern and the institute should seize the important opportunity to accelerate the construction of a country with strong transportation, by giving full play to its own advantages, and further strengthening the collaborative innovation and practical cooperation between scientific research institutes and enterprises.
Zhang Huaqin, president of Tianjin research institute for water transport engineering, pointed out that the large-scale hydrodynamic experimental base has become a scientific research center that adheres to independent innovation and pursuit of excellence in the past 10 years of construction, which strongly contributes to the development of science and technology in major state construction projects and transportation industry. During the "14th Five-Year plan" period, the Institute will continue to fully support and accelerate the building of a country with strong transportation supported by large-scale hydrodynamic experimental base.
It is reported that up to now, the construction of scientific research facilities of the institute represented by large hydrodynamic experimental base has greatly promoted the development of basic research and major engineering research capacity. The construction also promoted the leap-forward development of professional disciplines, which enhanced attraction of talents with the scale of scientific research talents greatly improved. It has also built 6 national scientific research platforms and 6 provincial and ministerial scientific research platforms, including over 100 completed and in-process research projects. The research institute also obtained 39 provincial and ministerial awards, of which 20 scientific and technological achievements have won first-class awards, obtained nearly 150 patent and software copyright, and 18 patents for invention.
Ma Chuanjing, former director of the Department of Trade and Industry of the Research Office of the State Council, Yu Shengying, former inspector of Comprehensive Planning Department of Ministry of Transport, and Chen Jianhua, executive vice chairman of China Maritime Pilots Association, attended the symposium. Participants also inspected the world's largest large-scale wave flumes in the world, the largest centrifuges laboratory in China, the integral physical model of the new channel of the Three Gorges River and the integral physical model of the Submerged Floating Tunnel.
