Suzhou Ship Pollution Prevention and Control Skills Competition Concludes in Taicang

On August 28, the 2026 Suzhou Ship Pollution Prevention and Control Skills Competition successfully concluded at the Taicang Supervision and Rescue Base. Guided by Jiangsu Maritime Safety Administration, this competition was jointly hosted by the People's Government of Taicang and the Suzhou Municipal Federation of Trade Unions, and undertaken by the Taicang Municipal Federation of Trade Unions and Taicang Maritime Safety Administration. Centered on the core concept of "promoting learning through assessment and selecting talents through competitions", it focuses on enhancing the professional competence and emergency response capabilities of frontline personnel engaged in ship pollution prevention and control.

Closely aligned with the Yangtze River Protection Strategy and the implementation requirements of the long-term mechanism of "One Zero, Two Fulls, Four Frees", the competition innovatively adopted a two-level competition system of "online qualifying round + centralized final". On August 19, 410 contestants from 43 organizations in the three cities along the Yangtze River participated in the online qualifying round. After rigorous selection, 80 elite contestants from 29 organizations advanced to the final. The final consisted of two major modules: theoretical assessment and practical drill. In the practical session, the competition innovatively adopted the mode of "real-scene video + time-limited identification", using actual footage of ships operating at ports to test contestants' ability to accurately identify pollution prevention and control hazards, covering core areas such as standardized pollutant treatment, safe use of shore power, and ship-shore interface management.

After several rounds of fierce competition, the event finally selected 1 individual first prize winner, 6 second prize winners, 12 third prize winners, and 5 outstanding organization units. This competition is not only a comprehensive review of the professional skills of the city's ship pollution prevention and control team, but also a platform for the industry to exchange experience and compete in skills. In the next step, Taicang Maritime Safety Administration will take this competition as an opportunity to continuously deepen the training of high-skilled talents, firmly build the Yangtze River ship pollution defense line, and inject impetus into the high-quality development of Suzhou's green port and shipping industry.
