National Symposium on Vessel Biosecurity Management was Held

On June 5, the National Symposium on Vessel Biosecurity Management, hosted by the Hebei Maritime Safety Administration, was held in Qinhuangdao, Hebei Province. The seminar focused on advancing vessel biosecurity management and discussed about strategies for marine ecological protection.

Experts at the symposium analyzed the challenges posed by biological invasions via vessels and the resulting damage to marine ecosystems within the global shipping industry. The participants unanimously agreed on the urgency of improving vessel biosecurity management. The discussions addressed existing shortcomings and difficulties in current practices, providing a comprehensive review and analysis. It also proposed the solutions and future priorities from the perspectives of technological innovations and management strategies. The symposium emphasized to align with international standards and balance development with security, as well as ecology with economic interests. The participants called for a collective effort to strengthen marine ecological safety with a strong sense of responsibility. They highlighted the need for collaboration across government, industry, academia, research, and application sectors to overcome technical barriers and resolve management bottlenecks.
