On April 27, the 1st General Meeting of the 2nd Shipping Finance Committee of China Institute of Navigation was held at China P&I Centre in Shanghai. Li Shixin, Vice President of China Institute of Navigation, and Liu Shun, Executive Secretary-General of China Institute of Navigation, attended the meeting and offered guidance. The meeting was also attended by Song Chunfeng, Chairman of the special committee, as well as Vice Chairmans, Secretary-General, Deputy Secretaries-General, and other committee members in various forms, including in-person and online. The meeting was chaired by Qiao Qing, the Secretary-General of the Special Committee.
In his opening remarks, Li Shixin, Vice President of China Institute of Navigation congratulated the convening of the general meeting. He highlighted that the special committee has played an irreplaceable and positive role in promoting high-quality development in China’s shipping and finance sectors and enhancing the comprehensive competitiveness of the shipping industry. He expressed his expectations that the newly elected committee would further strengthen its functions in information sharing, academic leadership, and industry services, build a high-level research and cooperation platform, and make new and greater contributions to theoretical innovation, policy recommendations, and the implementation of related initiatives.
Liu Shun, Executive Secretary-General, read out China Institute of Navigation’s “Reply on Agreeing to the Election Work of the Shipping Finance Special Committee.” The meeting approved the composition plan for the 2nd committee through voting and elected the new Chairman, Vice Chairmans Secretary-General, Deputy Secretaries-General, and other committee members. The meeting also passed the Special Committee’s working regulations and the main work plan for 2025.
In his speech, Song Chunfeng, the newly elected Chairman of the Special Committee, expressed sincere gratitude to the China Institute of Navigation and all committee members for their trust and affirmation on behalf of the committee. He emphasized that shipping finance and insurance are important pillars of the modern high-end shipping service industry. Given the profound reshaping of the global shipping landscape and industrial opportunities intermingling with challenges, he called that all units should embrace the sense of mission and courage and shoulder their responsibilities. The new committee will focus on collaboration, cutting-edge technologies aiming to broaden the international perspectives. Hosting Forum’ Shipping Finance and Insurance Forum under the China’s National Maritime Day will be a key initiative to ensure a good start and smooth progress in all work and to collectively promote high-quality development of the industry.
Prior to the election meeting, the Chairman Meeting of the 2nd Shipping Finance Special Committee convened. The proposed Chairman, Vice Chairmans, and Secretary-General attended the meeting, which was chaired by Song Chunfeng, Chairman of the Special Committee.
China Institute of Navigation is a nationwide academic and non-profit social organization and an important social force in the development of China’s navigation technology. The Shipping Finance Special Committee, established in December 2018, is a branch of China Institute of Navigation. The Secretariat currently operates in collaboration with China Shipowners Mutual Assurance Association.
The new committee fully demonstrates industry representativeness and international diversity. The Committee consists of 89 members with 76 from the Chinese Mainland, 9 from Hong Kong, China, 2 from the UK and 2 from Greece. The members come from various sectors, including regulatory authorities, industry associations, international organizations, universities and research institutions, ship inspection organizations, shipping companies, financial institutions, insurance and brokerage firms, maritime legal, arbitration, and related service institutions, and industry media.
