The International Association of Institutes of Navigation (IAIN) World Congress 2024 Concluded in Beijing

Zhang Baochen, Executive Vice Chairman of the China Institute of Navigation,elected as the 18th President of IAIN

On October 30, the two-day World Congress 2024 of the International Association of Institutes of Navigation(IAIN)concluded in Beijing. Focusing on the theme of “Expanding Navigation Application, Empowering the Future of Humanity”, experts and delegates from China and abroad engaged in in-depth exchanges and discussions, shared the latest research findings in the field of navigation and navigation technology, and explored the limitless possibilities of the future development of navigation applications.

Krzysztof Czaplewski, the 17th President of IAIN, announced the composition of the new executive committee at the closing ceremony. Zhang Baochen, Executive Vice Chairman of the China Institute of Navigation, was elected as the 18th President of IAIN,serving until 2027.

Zhang Baochen said that the new executive committee will focus on enhancing IAIN's capacity to practice its tenet and give full play to its roles, expanding the scope and participation of academic exchange activities, and boosting its appeal to young navigation science and technology talents. With the accelerated integration of navigation technology with artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies, the new executive committee will cooperate with all members to establish pluralistic and extensive exchange and cooperation platform, forming a standardized mechanism that is more convenient, credible and adaptable to integrated development needs.

During the conference, over 40 Chinese and foreign authors presented their papers in four groups. Based on the IAIN paper selection mechanism and the comprehensive consideration of the papers' innovation, scientific truth, practicability as well as the presenter's communication skills, content depth and influence, the paper titled“Utilizing Radar Landmarks for Self-localization in GNSS-restricted Marine Environments”by Chinese authors Sun Shuai, Lyu Hongguang, Yang Xiao and Yang Yang was awarded the Sadek Award for the best paper.

The next IAIN World Congress will be held in Kraków, Poland in 2027.
