China Symposium on Polar Science (CSPS) 2024 was successfully held in Taiyuan

From August 10 to 11, China Symposium on Polar Science (CSPS) 2024 was held in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province. More than a thousand Representatives from the Environment Protection and Resources Conservation Committee of the National People's Congress, the Shanxi Provincial People's Government, relevant units of the Ministry of Natural Resources, and more than a thousand representatives from universities and research institutes involved in polar expeditions across the country attended the conference. During the conference, the Polar Navigation and Equipment Committee of China Institute of Navigation held the "Polar Navigation and Equipment Innovation Forum" during the conference. Liu Shun, Deputy Secretary-General of the Institute, delivering the opening speech.

Deputy Secretary-General Liu Shun noted that since its establishment, the Polar  Committee has made a series of achievements, including organizing and applying for various awards, supporting the development of the institute’s think tank, and promoting navigation science popularization and education. The Polar Committee won widespread acclaim from experts and scholars in the polar field. Liu hoped that the Polar Committee would continuously strengthen its own capacity building, improve the level of technology breakthroughs, further play a good role as a bridge for scientific and technological exchanges, and contribute polar sci-tech wisdom and strength to establishing a new development paradigm, building up China’s maritime strength at a faster pace, and achieving the modernization of China’s governance system and capacity.

Huang Rong, chairman of the Polar Committee and Director of the Polar Icebreaker Research Institute of the Polar Research Institute of China, stated that as one of the special sessions of the CSPS 2024 , this forum took the 40th anniversary of China Polar Expedition as an opportunity to create a vibrant atmosphere for exchanging experiences and discussing cooperation. The topics of the special reports were centered around the strategic planning for polar marine equipment, independent development of polar ships, polar marine engineering experiments and polar ship materials. Senior domestic experts and teams were invited to introduce and share polar frontier science and technology with the participants, broadening ideas for the development of polar navigation and equipment.The Polar Committee will continue to serve the significant needs of the country, build a platform for exchanges and cooperation, and jointly promote the development of polar affairs.

Nearly 70 experts and representatives frommember units of the Polar Committee, Polar Research Institute of China, China Classification Society, China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Harbin Engineering University, Tianjin University, Dalian University of Technology, Shanghai Maritime University, Wuhan University of Technology, Jiangsu University of Science and Technology, and research institutes attended the forum.
