This year's marine science popularization season will run from July to September, during which a variety of activities will be carried out.

Li Shixin said that in order to further strengthen the marine science popularization work, the China Institute of Navigation has set up a marine science popularization work committee, actively promote the construction of marine education bases, and vigorously develop the construction of marine science experts, disseminators and volunteers. At present, there are 90 national Marine science popularization education bases named by the China Institute of Navigation, 20 Marine science popularization ambassadors have been appointed, and a Marine science popularization expert report group has been set up to carry out science popularization lectures and exchanges in campuses and enterprises. China Institute of Navigation also actively organizes and coordinates professional committees, science popularization education bases, member units and local navigation societies to jointly build marine science popularization brand activities, and carries out nearly 100 marine science popularization activities every year to popularize navigation knowledge, publicize navigation culture, and spread the spirit of navigation in the new era.

At the launching ceremony, the winners of the Third China Maritime Day Maritime Calligraphy and Painting Competition for Primary and Secondary School Students were announced and awarded trophies. The competition received more than 3,000 pieces of maritime-themed calligraphy and painting works from young people across the country. After careful selection and rigorous evaluation by experts, 85 works stood out, some of which are displayed in the Maritime Museum, and the official website of the China Institute of Navigation also featured a special exhibition of these excellent works.
At the opening ceremony, the flag presentation for the opening of the “Navigation Science Popularization Summer Camp of CIN 2024” was also held. It is reported that the “Navigation Science Popularization Summer Camp 2024” is hosted by the China Institute of Navigation and organized by Huayang Maritime Travel Agency. The young campers will learn maritime knowledge, experience maritime spirit, and engage in interactive learning with maritime professionals from different fields.

Ni Di, a senior captain and representative of the 14th National People’s Congress, recipient of the National May 1 Labor Medal, delivered a lecture titled “Setting Sail on the Dream of Navigation: Exploring the Path of Maritime Transport and National Prosperity”; Zhong Wenxin, captain of the vessel “NEW VISION”, spoke on “Inheriting the Hailiao Spirit and Creating the Future for Shipping”; Shen Quan, a senior captain and Antarctic overwintering station leader, discussed “ Polar Ocean Pioneers: Exploring the Technological Mysteries of Icebreakers in Polar Regions.” Song Tao, a nominee for the 2023 national master craftsman of the year and a model worker of Hebei Province, spoken on Embracing the Ocean, Pursuing the Deep Blue Dream”; and Song Kun, the first Chinese woman to sail solo around the world, shared her experiences under the theme of “Not for the Shore, but for the Sea: Exploring the Magical Journey of Sailing Around the World.” During the lectures, there was also live Q&A session where questions from audience members, including primary and secondary school students, were answered.
