The Training Program on Enhancing the Ability to Transfer and Transform Professional Technologies in the Field of Ship Firefighting was Successfully Held

The training Program on enhancing the ability to transfer and transform professional technologies in the field of ship firefighting was successfully held in Dalian from July 2 to 6. This training program, under the Knowledge Renewal Project of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of the People’s Republic of China, was organized by the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) and jointly co-hosted by the China Institute of Navigation (CIN) and Dalian Maritime University (DMU).

       The opening ceremony was held in Dalian on the morning of July 3, Liu Shun, Deputy Secretary General of CIN, presided over the ceremony. Yan Xiaobo, Secretary General of CIN, Wang Xiaoyong, Vice-chancellor of DMU and Qin Huanfu, Deputy Secretary General of China Shipowners’ Association (CSA) attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. Also present were more than 100 managers and top executives, firefighters as well as researchers. They came from subordinate units such as China Classification Society (CCS), China Rescue and Salvage of the Ministry of Transport of the People’s Republic of China and Liaoning Maritime Safety Administration of the People’s Republic of China; well-known shipping enterprises such as COSCO Shipping, China Merchants Energy Shipping, CCCC Dredging, COSL and Guoneng Yuanhai; universities such as Dalian Maritime University, Shanghai Maritime University, Wuhan University of Technology and other first-line fire-fighting units such as Shandong Port Group and Dalian Fire Brigade.

              

     Yan Xiaobo, Secretary General of CIN delivered a speech via video links. He said that CIN together with DMU had hosted four professional training programs for three consecutive years. It fully displays CAST’S support for the operations and its recognition of the professional skills of CIN and DMU. He also expressed hope that all trainees would integrate expert knowledge into their professional tasks. He then took this opportunity to introduce the upcoming China Maritime Week 2023.

     Wang Xiaoyong, vice president of Dalian Maritime University (DMU), expressed his sincere welcome to all trainees. He said that the university would do its best to create better conditions for this training. He also hoped that the trainees would make use of the learning opportunity to strengthen communication and make contributions to the construction of a country with great transport strength.

      It’s a great honour to be able to invite a number of industry-renowned experts like Zhu Jianhua, vice president of China Waterborne Transport Research Institute, and Chu Beiping, vice president  of DMU to give lectures for this ship’s fire fighting training program. By introducing port safety management measures, ship emergency response mechanisms and ship’s fire prevention and control technology, etc., the course brought new thinking and pointed out new directions for the students to work together to promote the construction of an integrated port and ship’s fire fighting system to ensure the safe operation of ports and ships.
