Popularization Figure And Science Popularization Work Of “Dian Zan-China Science Popularization In 2022”

    

Recently, the results of “Dian Zan-China Science Popularization in 2022” organized by China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) were officially released. Captain BAI Xiang’en, Associate Professor of Shanghai Maritime University, recommended by China Institute of Navigation (CIN), was nominated as annual Science Popularization Figure. And The Blue Boat-the first serial exhibition of contemporary Chinese maritime equipment was nominated as annual Science Popularization Work.

As the second officer of Xuelong, China’s fifth Arctic research icebreaker, she has sailed twice across the Arctic Ocean, completing the first crossing of the Arctic Ocean by a Chinese ship. She has taken the initiative to mobilize the community to join the Shanghai Maritime Search and Rescue volunteer team to promote the volunteer spirit of young people, while providing navigation science popularization for ships and personnel.

During her work on the ship, she shot a series of short videos called “Follow Captain BAI to see the sea”, which were broadcasted on Tick Tock and received more than 12 million views and were widely praised by the public.

The Blue Boat-the first serial exhibition of contemporary Chinese maritime equipment was hosted by China Maritime Museum, the comprehensive technical and economic research institute of China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited and Shanghai Branch of China Classification Society (CCS). The exhibition showed China’s contemporary advanced maritime equipment and its outstanding achievements, highlighting the achievements of building a strong maritime nation. There were three units of “official ships”, “transportation ships” and “marine engineering equipment”, involving maritime patrol ships, cruise rescue ships, container ships, bulk carriers, oil tankers, gas carriers, large cruise ships, ro-ro vessels, research and survey vessels, drilling platforms, semi-submersibles, etc. The exhibition selected models with innovative breakthroughs, typical representativeness and significant significance for display.

Since its inception in 2015, the “Dian Zan-Science Popularization in China” event organized by CAST has received attention and recognition from all walks of life and has become one of the most influential science popularization activities. In 2022, the activity received 1,213 nominations from 174 units. And through the process of classification evaluation and public announcement, there were 20 nominations for scientific research figures, 20 nominations for grassroots and social science figures, 10 nominations for science popularization books, 10 nominations for science popularization films and videos, 10 nominations for short science popularization videos, and 10 nominations for science popularization exhibitions.
