On October 30th, 2020, the “National Intelligent Unmanned Vehicle Search and Rescue Competition” opened in Dalian, jointly sponsored by China Institute of Navigation (CIN) and the People’s Government of Dalian Municipality, undertaken by Dalian Science and Technology Bureau and Dalian Maritime University. He Jianzhong, president of CIN, Zhang Zhihong, vice mayor of the People’s Government of Dalian Municipality, Zhang Baochen, vice executive president of CIN, and Zheng Shaonan, secretary of the Party committee of Dalian Maritime University, attended the opening ceremony and come to the competition scene in person.
At the opening ceremony, Zhang Baochen pointed out that the in-depth integration of modern information, artificial intelligence and other high-tech and shipping elements had given birth to the new business model of intelligent shipping. The R&D and application of intelligent ship technology will have a profound impact on traditional ships and shipping industry. This competition, with the theme of intelligent unmanned vehicle search and rescue, was highly compatible with shipping safety and the core of modern shipping industry. He shared his views on intelligent shipping from the following three aspects: promoting shipping modernization through intellectualization, accelerating the integration and development of new business shipping industry with 5G technology, and speeding up the transformation and development of shipping industry with modern information technology. He said that CIN would be committed to building a collaborative, open, shared and integrated deep learning platform of “government-industry-university-research”, and provide suggestions and services for members and navigation science and technology workers. In the ocean of the digital economy, CIN will steer the huge intelligent ship towards the goal of building a country with strong transportation network and stand up to the tide as the pioneer.
With the theme of “maritime intelligent search and rescue”, the competition took the application of unmanned vehicle technology in search and rescue as the main purpose and content, and set up four subjects, namely, creative design of intelligent unmanned vehicle search and rescue, rapid rescue of surface targets through human-machine cooperation unmanned vehicle, rapid rescue of surface targets through autonomous unmanned vehicle and detection of underwater targets through autonomous unmanned vehicle. Nearly 60 teams from more than 30 units, including Harbin Institute of Technology, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Tianjin University, Beijing Institute of Technology, Northwestern Polytechnical University, Dalian Maritime University, PLA Dalian Naval Academy, etc., took part in the competition, which was held online and offline simultaneously.
