On November 21, the Chinese Academy of Sciences announced the results of the 2025 academician election. Professor Yang Kunde, recommended by the China Institute of Navigation, has been elected as academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Professor Yang Kunde works as a professor and doctoral supervisor at Northwestern Polytechnical University, as well as national leading talent. He has won the National Innovation and Contribution Award and enjoys the special government allowance of the State Council. He also serves as member of the expert group for major national marine projects, member of the expert group for key national models, and expert for multiple national ministries and commissions. He has long been engaged in basic and applied research in underwater acoustics physics, underwater acoustic signal and information processing, underwater acoustic system design, and long-range high-speed transmission over the sea. He has led over 50 projects including major national science and technology projects, key national research and development plans, and key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. He served as the chief scientist for seven voyages of the comprehensive ocean acoustic survey of a major national project. As the first-completer, he has won one National Invention Award and two first prizes of science and technology from the Ministry of Transport.
