On the afternoon of October 11, 2019, the press conference of the First World Maritime Conference was held in Lingang Special New Area. Huang Youfang, Chairman of China Institute of Navigation and President of Shanghai Maritime University, Wang Qun, Secretary General of China Institute of Navigation, and Wang Weixin, Deputy General Manager of BIT Congress Inc., the organizer of the World Maritime Conference, participated in the conference and answered questions from reporters. The 1st World Maritime Conference was co-hosted by China Institute of Navigation (CIN) and Shanghai Maritime University, and organized by BIT Congress Inc. Huang Youfang, on behalf of CIN and Shanghai Maritime University, expressed gratitude to the presence of media and their concern on the conference preparation. Huang Youfang said that the transformation and development of global maritime field were confronted with opportunities and challenges brought by wide application of emerging technologies, highlighted by big date, artificial intelligence and the internet of things. The main purpose of 1st World Maritime Conference was to build a platform for academic exchanges in maritime field, and to further promote China's international influence and discourse power in maritime field.
Huang Youfang put an emphasis on the idea that Lingang Special New Area would have a good prospect in the context that the international maritime is undergoing an open, standardized and upgrading transformation. The First World Maritime Conference, held in Lingang Special New Area showed that Lingang Special New Area was open to the outside world and helps promote international cooperation.

The First World Maritime Conference will be held from October 20 to October 22, 2019, with the theme of ‘New Era, New Technology and New Maritime’. At that time, a total number of more than 400 people will attend this conference, including experts, scholars, representatives of enterprises and institutions and entrepreneurs in maritime field from nearly 30 countries and regions.
The 2019 World Maritime Conference is the First international high-end academic conference held in Lingang Special New Area, China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone. This conference includes Opening Ceremony, Nobel Laureates Forum, Theme Forum, High-end Dialogue, World Maritime (Ocean) University President Forum, and Special Sub-Forum. In total there are 13 forums and over 100 key-note speeches, covering several hot spots and significant developments in the World Maritime Economic Forum, shipping and management, intelligent ship, maritime management, maritime law, maritime energy management, the conference will also publish Search Report on Navigation Status in the South China Sea, 2018.
