Navigation New Era, Sail out Anew——Events and Seminars in celebration of the 40th CIN Anniversary in Beijing

In the happy and joyful atmosphere to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the People's Republic of China, the China Institute of Navigation (CIN) also kicked out its delightful time. On the afternoon of July 4, the 40th anniversary events of CIN and seminar were held in Beijing. Over 400 people attended this event, including Huang Zhendong and Li Shenglin, former Minister of Ministry of Transport, Liu Songjin, former Vice Minister of Ministry of Transport, Hong Shanxiang, former Vice Minister of Ministry of transport and the 6th President of CIN, Xu Zuyuan, former Vice Minister of Ministry of Transport and the 7th President of CIN, Chen Rui, Vice Minister of Academic Department of China Association for Science and Technology(CAST), Li Huajun, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and Vice President of Ocean University of China. There are also leaders from relevant departments of CAST and Ministry of Transport, brother institute and relevant department of Naval Sea Systems and representatives from the CIN branches at the provincial and municipal levels and those from Tianjin port pilot center as well as other representatives. Huang Youfang, chairman of CIN and President of Shanghai Maritime University, made a keynote report: Set Sail Again in a New Navigation Era.

Vice Minister Chen Rui delivered a passionate speech on behalf of CAST. He highly affirmed the fruitful achievements CIN made in capacity building and academic progress in the field of navigation as well as its effort to serve its members and society. He also expressed sincere thanks to the maritime science and technology workers and former members of CIN for their efforts and hard work. In conclusion, he put forward expectations and suggestions for the future development of CIN.

CIN Chairman Huang Youfang said in his keynote speech that China’s maritime industry was never far away for a moment in the forefront of reform and opening up, and had made remarkable achievements during the last 40 years. CIN, born in the era of reform and opening up, always stands together with China’s maritime industry for common development. It has steadily improved its capacity building and social influence. At present, CIN owns 22 specialized committees, 2 scientific journals and 320 unit members, thus making it an important scientific and technological community that enjoys a high reputation in the field of maritime science and technology.

He also pointed out that standing at the historical starting point in the new era, CIN was confronted with tough tasks entrusted by the new era. Looking forward to the future, CIN was about to promote exchanges and cooperation of maritime science and technology as well as innovation, make great contributions to managing global maritime science and technology, spread maritime science and culture and show concerns for maritime science and technology workers. CIN would remain true to its original aspiration and keep its mission firmly in mind. Focusing on the general objective of building a great modern socialist country and the new demand on building China into a strong maritime country with strong transportation network, CIN would unite and lead maritime science and technology workers, and work strenuously to ensure that CIN would set sail again in a navigation new era. In addition, it would make new and greater breakthroughs for the development of China’s maritime industry and break new ground for the maritime industry with Chinese characteristics.

Followed was the awarding ceremony. Cao Di, Standing Vice Chairman of CIN declared the results of selection: the Second Honorary Title for Lifetime Achievement of CIN, the Prominent Figure for Outstanding Technological Contributors of CIN, 2018 CIN Science and Technology Award, Excellent Organization Award for Maritime Science and Technology Papers, Photography and Calligraphy Competition Award for the 40th Anniversary Event of CIN, etc.

After the award ceremony, Li Huajun, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and Vice President of Ocean University of China and Chen Yingqiu, Vice Chief Engineer of China Classification Society made special academic reports on Innovating Maritime Science and Technology and improve the ocean management capacity , and Development Direction of Ship Intelligent Technology respectively. Secretary-General of CIN Wang Qun presided over the seminar.
