On May 13, “A Practical Guide to COVID-19 Prevention and Control for Maritime Pilots and Seafarers”, compiled by front-line industry experts organized by China Institute of Navigation (CIN) and China Maritime Pilots’ Association, was officially published at Shanghai Pujiang Education Press Co., Ltd.. He Jianzhong, president of CIN, prefaced it.
It is reported that this guide, in the English-Chinese bilingual way, gives a brief introduction to the important knowledge of COVID-19, and describes the epidemic prevention and control in shipping and piloting respectively in different chapters. It also extracts common epidemic prevention sentences, phrases and words used by pilots and seafarers and attaches the epidemic situation and measures of prevention and control in China. This guide aims at helping maritime pilots and seafarers to grasp the relevant knowledge and English expression of the epidemic prevention and control quickly, and thus contributing to China’s epidemic prevention work, and showing the image of China as a great country.
Since the outbreak of COVID-19, China and the whole world have been facing severe challenges. In order to reduce economic and social losses and actively resume work and production, shipping workers have always been sticking to the forefront of marine transportation, upholding the purpose of “external defense input, internal defense proliferation and strict output control”, to ensure the safety of ships, cargo, ports and personnel. In such a special period, ocean-going seafarers and pilots have been doing a special work. They inevitably have to contact with staff from different countries and regions. Therefore, it is a top priority to improve their knowledge and skills of epidemic prevention, and enhance the efficiency of external communication and the efficiency of the ship entering and leaving the port.
In response to this, CIN and China Maritime Pilots’ Association, giving full play to their advantages of scientific and technological communities, organized many front-line sea captains, senior pilots and industry experts to compile “A Practical Guide to COVID-19 Prevention and Control for Maritime Pilots and Seafarers” on the basis of “A Practical Guide to COVID-19 Prevention and Control for Pilots” by pilots. Previously, in order to facilitate everyone to grasp the relevant content as soon as possible, the content of this guide had been opened for download on several websites and WeChat official accounts.
