China Institute of Navigation Notice on Soliciting Major Scientific Issues, Engineering Technical Challenges, and Industrial Technology Issues in 2024

China Institute of Navigation Notice on Soliciting Major Scientific Issues, Engineering Technical Challenges, and Industrial Technology Issues in 2024

CIN [2024] No. 23

To all relevant units:

In order to further strengthen scientific foresight, lead original scientific research, promote high-level scientific self-reliance, the institute, in accordance with the requirements of the "Notice of the General Office of the China Association for Science and Technology on Soliciting Major Scientific Issues, Engineering Technical Challenges, and Industrial Technology Issues in 2024" (CAS Letter No. [2024] 13), is soliciting global attention in the field of navigation for cutting-edge scientific issues, engineering technical challenges, and industrial technology issues from domestic and international scientific organizations and researchers. The relevant matters are hereby notified as follows:

1. Solicitation Period

From the date of this notice to February 29, 2024.

2. Solicitation Content and Fields

We face the forefront of world science and technology, the main economic battlefield, major national needs, and the health and well-being of the people, the solicitation aims to gather cutting-edge scientific issues, engineering technical challenges, and industrial technology issues in the field of navigation that have a leading role in future technological development. We focus on original, leading issues and key core technical issues, especially significant issues in the process of building a strong country in science and technology, transportation, shipping, and the digital transformation of China.

The solicitation scope covers primarily all fields of natural sciences and engineering technology, with a focus on basic science, earth science (including deep earth and deep sea), ecological environment, manufacturing technology, information technology, advanced materials, resource energy, aerospace technology, and other areas.

3. Solicitation Method

Recommendation units can recommend individually or jointly, and are encouraged to recommend jointly with relevant foreign scientific organizations and international experts. Each recommending unit can recommend 3-5 cutting-edge scientific issues, engineering technical challenges, and industrial technology issues.

4. Recommendation Requirements

The proposed issues should be specific, focused on a "point," and presented in the form of a question. Cutting-edge scientific issues should focus on cognitive boundaries, mechanisms, and laws, with an emphasis on research method innovations brought about by new technological applications, while engineering technical challenges and industrial technology issues should be detailed to at least the sub-discipline level. Each issue or challenge should be written according to the template requirements (see Attached files 2, 3). Issues or challenges not written in the prescribed format will not be considered for the recommendation selection process.

5. Recommendation and Selection

The institute will establish an expert committee to conduct preliminary selection, secondary selection, final selection, and other stages to evaluate the recommended issues, select cutting-edge scientific issues, engineering technical challenges, and industrial technology issues in the field of navigation, and report them to the China Association for Science and Technology.
