Notice on Organizing and Carrying Out the Activities of the 2022 National Maritime Popularization Week

All relevant national societies, associations, and related institutions, member units, branches of CIN, and maritime science popularization education bases:
In order to carry forward the spirit of navigation in the new era, popularize scientific knowledge, stimulate the dream of navigation, promote the overall improvement of the scientific quality of the whole people, and create a sound atmosphere of knowing and loving navigation in the whole society, on the occasion of the 18th China Maritime Day, the CIN, together with relevant national societies, associations, will jointly organize and carry out the activities of the “2022 National Maritime Science Popularization Week” (hereinafter referred to as “Science Popularization Week”) from July 10 to 16, 2022. The relevant matters are hereby notified as follows, and all relevant units are requested to plan carefully in combination with the actual situation and jointly promote the work related to the science popularization week.

Offline activities are combined with online activities, and popular science activities are combined with publicity and promotion.
2. Main contents
1) Maritime Popular Science Cloud Exhibition (online);
2) 2022 National Maritime Science Knowledge Competition (online);
3) Popular science lecture series of “Craftsman tells about navigation” (mainly online, supplemented by offline);
4) Open Day activities of National Maritime Science Popularization Education Base (online and offline, organized according to the local conditions);
5) Maritime-related calligraphy and painting competition for primary and secondary school students on the theme of " Build a Dream of Navigation with Our Childlike Innocence".
3. Work arrangement
(1) Collection of publicity materials for Maritime Popular Science Cloud Exhibition
“Maritime Popular Science Cloud Exhibition” serves as an important part of the content of the special web page of the National Maritime Science Popularization week in 2022. It will display characteristic popular science activities and popular science works through the network platform during China’s maritime week. Specific requirements are as follows:
1. Special popular science activities
1) Solicitation content: pictures or videos of activities related to maritime culture, science popularization, etc. carried out in the past two years with relevant text descriptions;
2) Material requirements: the picture format is JPG, the resolution is not less than 300dpi, and the size is not less than 1M; the length of the video shall not exceed 5 minutes. MP4 or AVI format is recommended, and advertisements cannot be inserted; the text description should include the event name, sponsor (undertaker) name of the unit, time, location and brief overview of the event, etc. Meanwhile, the text should be ≤150 words.
2. Exhibition of Maritime Science Popularization Education Base
1) Solicitation content: The latest pictures of maritime science popularization education base. The picture content is mainly based on the appearance of the base, key science popularization places or objects; highlights the characteristics of the base or important achievements in development and construction, etc.;
2) Material requirements: Each base shall provide 2-3 pictures, the file name is the picture name (the picture requirements are the same as above), and a brief introduction of the base shall be attached, with words ≤ 150 words.
3. Maritime Science Popularization works
1) Solicitation content: 2021 CIN Science and Technology Award - popular science award-winning works, teaching materials, reading materials, new media popular science works and videos, etc.;
2) Material requirements: One page of scanned cover and full (or partial) content in PDF version (the copyright is not involved) shall be provided for books. Publicity reports, experience sharing and small videos by means of new media can be submitted as new media works. The content should be positive and focus on the theme of navigation and boast the significance of innovation and science popularization.
(2) 2022 National Maritime Science Knowledge Competition
1) Time: June 15th - July 10th
2) Format: Online (Questionnaire Star applet)
3) Organizer: Dalian Maritime University
4) Participants: All units organize their own personnel to participate in online quiz
5) The list of winners and excellent organizations will be published on the special webpage of the 2022 China Maritime Day Activity Week.

(3) Popular science lecture series of “Craftsman tells about navigation”
1. Qualified units can invite senior experts and scholars in the industry to hold lectures, reports, salons, etc. online or in a combination of online and offline methods to analyze hot spots and spread maritime culture. Each lecture lasts 15-20 minutes, and the topics focus on the maritime culture, history, inheritance, and development.
2. Please report the recorded videos or lecture messages (pictures and texts) to the Secretariat of the CIN. The video file is recommended to be in MP4 or AVI format, which requires complete content and clear voice, and needs to provide a brief introduction of the speaker and an abstract of the speech content. The official website of the CIN and relevant platforms will work on the publicity and promotion.
(4) Organizing the Open Day activities of National Maritime Science Popularization Education Base
During the period from July 10 to 16, all maritime science popularization education bases will organize open day activities according to the local epidemic prevention and control requirements and the actual situation of the base, which will be open to the public free of charge. Qualified bases can organize maritime science popularization special exhibitions, online cloud exhibitions, and science popularization volunteer activities, etc.
1) Solicitation object: Each unit organizes its employees’ children (primary school students in Grade 1-6; junior and senior high school students) to participate in the calligraphy and painting competitions;
2) The theme of the work: Taking navigation and ocean as the theme; the content should be healthy and positive;
3) Works category: Traditional Chinese painting, oil painting, sand painting, watercolor painting, gouache cartoon, sketch, printmaking, hard-tipped calligraphy, and brush calligraphy
4) Number of works: 1 piece per person
5) Organizer: Beijing Huayang Maritime Shipping Travel Agency Co., Ltd
6) Deadline: Before July 5, 2022
7) The winning works will be displayed on the special webpage of China Maritime Day in 2022.
4. Relevant requirements
(1) Strengthen organization and leadership to ensure the effectiveness. All relevant units and departments are supposed to clarify the responsibilities of special personnel and formulate the plans and measures. Meanwhile, they need to carefully organize and widely launch and take an active part in the activities of the National Maritime Science Popularization week, and provide certain human resources, material and financial support and guarantee.
(2) Strengthen publicity and promotion to improve the attractiveness and influence. It is necessary to intensify the linkage with the media, innovate publicity methods and means, make full use of new media platforms, and organize and carry out multi-channel publicity activities. By doing so, it can stimulate the enthusiasm of the whole society, especially the teenagers, to love the ocean and sailing.
(3) During the period of organizing the activities, all relevant units and departments should make epidemic prevention and control a top priority, and strictly abide by the local epidemic response requirements. In accordance with the principle of “whoever holds the event will take responsibility”, they need to strictly implement the main responsibility of the event organizer, do a good job in risk assessment, and ensure the safety and order of the event.
(4) Please make a summary of relevant activities and report to the institute before July 30, 2022. The institute will praise the units with solid work and outstanding achievements and the activities with distinctive features and remarkable results according to the organization and mobilization of the activities, quantity and scale, activity publicity, effect highlights, network activities and other indicators. And it will introduce, publicize and display them on the official website of the institute, official account, China Science Communication and other platforms. The effect evaluation of the activity will be included in the annual assessment of the maritime science popularization education base
(5) All units should prepare carefully and strictly check the pictures, videos and text materials of relevant activities provided. The deadline for submission of all materials is June 30, 2022.
