Recently, all 105 operational ferry terminals in Yichang City, Hubei Province, have been equipped with video surveillance, marking the entry of Yichang’s ferry safety management into a new phase of information-based management.
For a long time, ferry terminal supervision relied mainly on manual on-site inspections, which were labor-intensive and difficult to achieve round-the-clock, comprehensive coverage. Since February this year, the Yichang Municipal Transportation Bureau has coordinated and carried out a full safety inspection of all operational ferries and terminals across the city, systematically identifying and rectifying potential safety hazards. Among the key tasks, the Bureau urged all counties and districts to complete the installation of video surveillance at ferry terminals. To ensure that the video surveillance provides clear, actionable, and manageable footage, the Yichang Municipal Transportation Bureau established a dedicated task force, organized specialized training sessions covering key aspects of daily monitoring, signal transmission, and subsequent maintenance, broke down data barriers, and guided local authorities to integrate the video surveillance signals from ferry terminals into the city and county-level urban video surveillance sharing platforms, achieving real-time video sharing and interconnection. Currently, regulators at both city and county levels can access the footage at any time via the surveillance platform and mobile app, significantly improving the response efficiency of water rescue and safety dispatch.
