Four Government Departments Jointly Held the 12th National Transportation Industry Vocational Skills Competition

The Ministry of Transportation, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, and the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League has issued a notice to jointly hold the 2020 National Industry Vocational Skills Competition - the 12th National Transportation Industry Vocational Skills Competition. The competition includes four parts: competitions for urban rail transit signal workers, road freight truck drivers, lifting and loading machinery operators and port passenger transporters.

This competition is organized by the Professional Qualification Center of the Ministry of Transport, China Academy of Transportation Science, China Transport News Co., Ltd., and Zhejiang Provincial Department of Transportation. The competition, as a first-class competition, is divided into two stages: the preliminaries and the national finals. The preliminaries will be organized by the transportation departments of all provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities, and Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps in conjunction with departments of Human Resources and Social Security, the Federation of Trade Unions, and the Communist Youth League in accordance with the notice and technical plan of the competition. Urban rail transit groups (companies) and port companies are encouraged to organize internal trials in accordance with the competition notice and technical plans. The national finals will be organized by the four organizers.

According to the notice, the competition focuses on the basic knowledge and skill requirements of the national professional skill standards for urban rail transit signal workers, lifting and loading machinery operators and port passenger transporters, as well as the main tasks of road freight truck drivers. In addition to these basic requirements, appropriate new knowledge, technologies and skills will be added. The competition will test the participants with the combination of theoretical knowledge and skill operation, with the former accounting for 30% and the latter 70%.

The notice clearly states that the top-five winners in each field will be awarded the title of "National Technical Expert" after being approved by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security. The top-three winners in each field who are 35 or below will be recommended to the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League to be awarded the title of "National Youth Professionals" according to procedures. For the top-one winner that meets the requirements, the Federation of Trade Unions of the related province (or autonomous region, municipality directlly under the Central Government) will give priority to them in applying for the "National May 1st Labor Medal" according to the procedures. The top-three winners in each field will be awarded gold, silver and bronze medals, trophies and certificates of honor. The top-twenty winners in each field will be awarded the title of "National Transportation Technology Expert" by the Ministry of Transportation.

It is reported that the current competition will learn from the experience of the World Skills Competition, carry out professional seminars and new technology exhibitions, and organize the competition's summary and commendation.
