On the morning of October 29, 2020 National Industry Vocational Skills Competition -- the 12th National Transportation Industry "Shandong Port Yantai Port Cup" National Final of Passenger Port Operators’ Vocational Skills Competition was held in Penglai Port District of Yantai Port, Shandong. Professional Skills Competition of Passenger Port Operators was included in the national industry vocational skills competition for the first time. Thirty-six contestants from 12 teams across the country will compete in two parts: theoretical knowledge and skill operations.
This competition, sponsored by the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, the All-China Federation of Trade Unions and the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, is a national first-class vocational skills competition. It is divided into two stages: the preliminaries and the national finals. The winners of the finals of the competition will be awarded the titles of "National Technical Expert" and "National Traffic Technical Expert" and will be given priority to apply for the National May 1st Labor medal and National Youth Work Expert title according to the procedures.
According to reports, there are eight parts of the competition: ticketing operation services, passenger real-name inspection services, bilingual broadcasting services, passenger personal security inspection services, passenger baggage security inspection services, vehicle image analysis, fire emergency response and passenger emergency response to comprehensively test the skills level of Passenger Port Operators Chen Xiaoping, secretary-general of the organizing committee of the competition and deputy bureau-level cadre of the Vocational Qualification Center of the Ministry of Transport, pointed out in the opening speech that the national transportation industry professional skills competition is to implement the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s guideline on the work of skilled talents. What’s more, it is an important action to promote the construction of a strong transportation country, an important arrangement for the Three-year Action Plan of Special Rectification for National Work Safety and an important element for promoting the spirit of model workers and craftsmen in the new era. It is of great significance to help the high-quality development of the transportation industry.
Xu Zhenchao, the winner of the National May 1st Labor medal, National Model Worker, winner of Reform Pioneer, the Most Beautiful Fighter, and Chief Referee of the Competition, sent a message to the contestants. He hopes the participants should put passengers’ safety, happiness and convenience in the first place, show themselves in the competition and learn from each other to jointly promote the modernization of the transportation and passenger transport skills. He also hopes that more Passenger Port Operators will participate in the skills competition, make innovations in the inheritance, so as to form a strong atmosphere for workers in the transportation industry to learn skills and serve the country.
Wang Fancong, deputy director of Shandong Provincial Transport Service Center, said in his speech that as the host, the center will do all kinds of preparations and services with high quality under the unified leadership of the organizing committee of the competition, and strive to make the competition an influential, high-quality and distinctive event.
Qiu Hongjing, member of the standing committee of the Party Committee and secretary of the Disciplinary Committee of Shandong Port Group Corporation, said in the welcome speech that the competition interpreted the requirements of "carrying forward the spirit of model workers and the spirit of craftsmen", showed the industry theme of "serving the country with skills and strengthening the country with transportation", and showed the professional demeanor of port and passenger ship staff in the transportation industry to the whole society.
The opening ceremony was presided by Zhu Yanhong, Director of the Seamen Work Department of the China Seamen Construction Union. Li Haoming, deputy director of the competition organizing committee, deputy director of the Vocational Qualification Center of the Ministry of Transport and secretary of the Disciplinary Committee, announced the official start of the competition.
Since 2007, the Ministry of Transport, together with the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, the All-China Federation of Trade Unions and the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, have successfully held 11 professional skills competitions in transportation industry. More than 100,000 transportation talents across the country competed on stage, and a large number of highly skilled talents emerged. Through the competition, 12 people across the country won the National May 1st Labor medal, 71 people won the National Technical Expert title, 47 people won the National Youth Work Expert title and 769 people won the title of National Transportation Technical Expert. Professional skills competitions have become a well-known brand in transportation industry and have become an effective role in talent training, hiring, evaluation and encouragement, creating a favorable social atmosphere of respecting professional skills.
