On December 4th, the Railway Transportation Coordination Committee of the New Land-Sea Corridor in Western China (hereinafter referred to as the Coordination Committee) was established. It aims to solve the key problems of train development, such as freight management, logistics connection, business innovation, equipment support, information sharing, etc., and promote the innovation of logistics operation mode through the establishment of public transportation coordination platform.
The Coordination Committee was initiated by China State Railway Group Co., Ltd., sponsored and established by six companies including China Railway Container Transportation Co., Ltd., COSCO Shipping Lines Co., Ltd., Sinotrans Co., Ltd and so on. Enterprises and institutions, engaged in logistics operation, freight management, marketing promotion and research and development of the New Western Land-Sea Corridor (hereinafter referred to as the Corridor), were also widely involved.
Located in the hinterlands of Western regions, the Corridor is connected to the Silk Road Economic Belt in the north, the 21st century Maritime Silk Road in the south and the Yangtze River Economic Belt. Thus it has an important strategic position in the coordinated development of regions and the construction of a new development pattern. Railway departments have continuously been optimizing and improving the layout of regional railway network, and orderly promoting the implementation of key projects such as freight infrastructure and passenger transport corridor, so as to provide reliable transportation capacity guarantee.
From January to October this year, 2,572 trains on the Corridor have been put into operation, an increase of 73%, showing a sound momentum of development. It is of great significance for deepening the two-way opening up of land and sea, promoting the development of Western China, accelerating the construction of modern logistics system, facilitating high-quality development of the regional economy, serving the “Belt and Road” Initiative, etc.
