2026 Breakbulk Logistics Industry Development Conference Held in Yantai

On June 12, the 2026 Breakbulk Logistics Industry Development Conference, co‑hosted by the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing and Shandong Port Group, opened in Yantai. Centered on the theme "Leadership · Resilience · Win‑Win · Ecosystem", the conference gathers industry expertise to explore pathways for industrial upgrading. It aims to build a more efficient, resilient and sustainable international breakbulk logistics system and inject fresh momentum for the high‑quality global expansion of "Made in China".

Breakbulk logistics connects domestic production capacity with global markets, acting as a critical link for the real economy to go global and securing unimpeded supply chains. A key player and pacesetter in global breakbulk logistics, Shandong Port has developed a matrix of specialized, large‑scale and international breakbulk hubs, with its breakbulk throughput ranking among the world's top tier.

As the northern pillar of Shandong Port and the chair entity of the International Breakbulk Logistics Branch under the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing, Yantai Port is building itself into a "global‑oriented breakbulk logistics hub port". It operates 35 international breakbulk shipping routes covering major breakbulk terminals in Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and South America, with an annual liner breakbulk throughput exceeding 16 million tonnes, the second‑highest in China. The conference has been hosted in Yantai for four consecutive years, a testament to Yantai Port's industry influence and pivotal hub role in breakbulk shipping.

A host of landmark achievements were unveiled at the conference. The dedicated breakbulk terminal at Yantai Port, Shandong Port Group, was selected as a typical terminal case for world‑class ports — the first breakbulk terminal in China to receive this recognition. The case was presented on‑site, alongside the official launch of the "ALL LIFT" versatile specialized breakbulk terminal brand.

Backed by mature operational workflows, multi‑cargo adaptability and an efficient collection‑and‑distribution system, the terminal sets a benchmark for professional breakbulk operations at Chinese ports. The new brand will further sharpen Shandong Port’s premium breakbulk service profile and demonstrate the rising international competitiveness and brand power of Chinese ports in the global breakbulk market.

Standards drive quality upgrading, while services underpin long‑term growth. The development of 25 standards covering the whole breakbulk industrial chain was officially kicked off at the event. The standards will standardize industry practices, improve the resilience and coordination efficiency of industrial and supply chains, and lay a solid foundation for a new‑generation breakbulk logistics ecosystem.

Shandong Port released two group standards: Operating Procedures for Port Loading of Wind‑Power Equipment and Quality Requirements for Port Fertilizer Handling, offering a replicable, implementable "Shandong Port Solution" for the sector. The Port also issued the Breakbulk Logistics Service Commitment, promising more open, transparent, standardized and efficient services to meet corporate expectations and lift the overall service capacity of China’s breakbulk ports.

During the conference, the initiative Unblock International Breakbulk Logistics Corridors to Enable Chinese Manufacturing for Global Reach and the China International Breakbulk Logistics Development Report (2026) were released. Representatives from ports, logistics providers, cargo owners and shipping carriers signed a strategic cooperation agreement to build an international breakbulk logistics ecosystem. The programme included keynote speeches and panel sessions, followed by a site visit to Yantai Port’s dedicated breakbulk terminal.
