The 2023 Meeting of Popularization of Science Working Committee of China Institute of Navigation was held in Beijing

On the morning of December 23, the 2023 meeting of Popularization of Science Working Committee of China Institute of Navigation was held in Beijing. The meeting was presided over by Mo Jianhui, the Director of Popularization Committee of China Institute of Navigation, He Jianzhong, President of China Institute of Navigation, Li Shixin, Vice President, Yan Xiaobo, the Secretary General and other leaders attended the meeting, and more than 30 members of Popularization Committee, maritime popularization ambassadors and representatives attended the meeting.

Mr. He emphasized that in recent years the popularization of maritime science and technology has achieved remarkable results and wide influence, and has been recognized by the China Association for Science and Technology, the public attention and the good evaluation of the society. To further improve the quality and effectiveness of popularization of maritime science in the future, firstly, we should fully understand the important role of popularization of science in supporting the implementation of the strategy of maritime power and shipping power, play the role of an enabler to realize the high level of maritime science and technology self-reliance and self-improvement, and be the front-runner of the construction of a first-class Institute with Chinese characteristics. Secondly, we should grasp the implementation of popularization of science and technology, strengthen the foundation of popularization of science and technology, expand the number of science and technology bases and improve the quality, play the role of science talents, further strengthen the role of youth groups and the community. We need to optimize the theme design, improve the working mechanism, and create a science popularization brand. Thirdly, we are striving to reach a new level in popularization of science, and the popularization of maritime science should continue to take the lead among national societies, have a more far-reaching impact on the public, and be more active in the construction of “first-class Institute with Chinese characteristics”.

At the meeting, Peng Yan, the Deputy Secretary General of the Society and Deputy Director of the Popularization of Science Working Committee, reported on the popularization of maritime science in 2023, analyzed the gaps and shortcomings, and put forward the key work plan for popularization of science in 2024. Representatives of the meeting held in-depth discussions and exchanges, shared their valuable experience in popularization of nautical science, and put forward opinions and suggestions on the future popularization of science, including measures to strengthen the awareness of all the people in navigation, improve the construction of the popularization system, enhance the capacity of popularization of science and strengthen the publicity of the new media of popularization of science and other related measures.
