Inheriting The Chinese Maritime Silk Road Culture And Boosting The Marine Economy Of Both Sides Of The Taiwan Straits -- The 2022 Cross-strait Expert Forum On Science And Technology “Symposium On Navigation Technology And Ocean Engineering Across The Taiw

On December 1, 2022, the sub-session of the 2022 Cross-strait Expert Forum On Science And Technology -- symposium on navigation technology and ocean engineering across the Taiwan straits was held in Xiamen both online and offline.

As one of the sub-sessions of the 2022 Cross-strait Expert Forum On Science And Technology, this symposium is co-sponsored by China Institute of Navigation, Chinese Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, Fujian Navigation Institute, Fujian Institute of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, Jimei University and other institutions, and co-hosted by Fujian Navigation Institute and Marine Engineering Institute, Jimei University. Affected by the epidemic, this symposium is held online. Marine Engineering Institute, Jimei University set up the main session. Leaders of the organizers, experts and scholars in navigation technology and ocean engineering from both sides of the Taiwan Straits, representatives of scientific and technological workers and business executives gathered online to share cutting-edge knowledge of science and technology, achievements in scientific research and innovation, and carry out academic exchanges and interactions. There were more than 200 delegates both online and offline, among them more than 50 are from Taiwan.

This symposium has been highly valued and actively participated by experts and scholars from both sides of the Taiwan Straits. A total of 61 exchange papers were collected from experts and scholars from both sides, including 16 papers from representatives of Taiwan. After professional selection by the organizing committee, 12 papers were recommended for exchange of keynote report in the symposium, and 6 papers in navigation technology and 6 papers in ocean engineering were recommended respectively. Three experts from the mainland and three from Taiwan in each field delivered keynote speeches.

In the symposium, experts and scholars in navigation technology and ocean engineering on both sides, centering on the theme of “Inheriting the Chinese Maritime Silk Road Culture and Boosting the Marine Economy of Both Sides of the Taiwan Straits”, and starting from the academic and technical exchanges in navigation technology and shipping, marine engineering and offshore wind power and related disciplines, extensively and deeply exchanged opinions and discussed the navigation and marine resources cooperation and communication on both sides. The topics include navigation technology and navigation safety, shipping hotspots and market development, cross-strait direct flights and development strategy, navigation education and vocational training, sailors’ labor service and employment development and other navigation technology projects as well as green ship and ocean engineering equipment research and design, intelligent ship and intelligent manufacturing, development and application of new marine energy, offshore wind power equipment manufacturing and operation technology, and far-reaching ocean aquaculture equipment technology development. In addition, technological achievements in navigation and marine fields were shared between the two sides.

After the symposium, the award ceremony for the prize-winning papers was held.

Through exchanges and discussions, a cross-strait platform for non-governmental science and technology communication has been established, which fully demonstrates the highlights of the symposium’s folk, scientific, grassroots and extensive nature. The symposium achieved good results.

This symposium will help build a platform for exchanges and cooperation between the two sides, improve the academic level of navigation technology and ocean engineering disciplines, and make contributions to the economic development of shipping industry and ocean engineering equipment across the Taiwan Straits.
