On the afternoon of August 25th, one of the key activities of the Academic Month of the 22nd Fujian Association for Science and Technology Annual Conference, “Navigation and Shipping Economy Summit Forum”, was opened in Fujian Chuanzheng Communications College.

This forum was jointly organized by Fujian Association of Science and Technology, China Institute of Navigation, Fuzhou Municipal People's Government and Fujian Provincial Port Group Co.. Led by Fujian Navigation Institute, Jimei University, Fujian Shipbuilding and Transportation Vocational College, Fuzhou Transportation Bureau and Fuzhou Association for Science and Technology in cooperation with Fujian Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, Fujian Communications and Transportation of Association, Fujian Shipowners' Association, Fujian Port Association, Fujian Chuanzheng Culture Exchange Association, Institute of Navigation in Jiangsu Province, Zhejiang Province, Guangdong Province and Shanghai, were involved in co-organising the event.
More than 160 delegates attended the conference. They were the representatives from Fujian and other provinces’ shipping, ports and terminals, as well as leaders, experts and scholars, business executives from shipbuilding and repairing enterprises, maritime, port and traffic and other related departments, higher education institutions and related nautical societies, associations and other units.

The opening ceremony of the forum was hosted by Ms. Chen Yanhong, vice president of Fujian Institute of Navigation and vice president of Fujian Shipbuilding and Transportation Vocational College. Mr. Zhang Baochen, vice chairman of the standing committee of China Institute of Navigation, Ms. Yang Caiwei, level II counsel of Fujian Association for Science and Technology, and Mr. Yang Jinchang, chairman of Fujian Institute of Navigation and deputy general manager of Fujian Provincial Port Group Co., Ltd. attended the conference and delivered speeches at the opening ceremony. Mr. Zhang Haiming, secretary of CPC of Fujian Chuanzheng Communications College, also attended the meeting and delivered a welcome speech.

The forum followed the theme of the 22nd Fujian Association for Science and Technology Annual Conference "Empowered by Technology, Led by Innovation, Build a New Engine for Fuzhou's High-quality Development". Focusing on shipping, ports, transportation and shipbuilding in Fuzhou under the theme of "revitalize the shipping economy, and let the science and technology lead the future", some famous academicians and experts from the maritime industry were invited, including Niu Xinqiang, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, National Design Master and the expert of hydraulic structure, and Zhang Baochen, vice chairman of the standing committee of China Institute of Navigation, senior vice-president of the International Association Of Institutes Of Navigation, chairman of academic committee of unmanned ship system and key equipment technology laboratory, expert of China Intelligent ship Innovation Alliance and the professorate senior engineer, and Deng Aimin, vice director of Science Commission of the No.701 Research Institute of the China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC), expert and researcher on ship preliminary design of China, as well as Zhang Pengfei, arbitrator, professor and doctoral supervisor of international maritime and commercial disputes, and other renowned academicians and experts. Meanwhile, they made some keynote reports entitled Research On The Key Technologies Of The New Waterway Of The Three Gorges Of Yangtze River, Prospects Of China's Intelligent Shipping Technology And Industrialization Development, Prospects Of Public Vessels Development In The Future and Technology Empowerment -The keynote Report On China's Navigation Education And Training And Seafarers' Career Development Prospects, respectively. The presentations covered smart navigation and shipping, smart ports, shipping and safety, marine economic development strategies, navigation education and vocational training, crew labor services and employment development, etc.

On August 26, 2022, the academic report session and the paper exchange session of this forum were held. The academic report session invited five experts from related fields, including the Navigation College of Jimei University, Marine Engineering College of Jimei University, Fuzhou Aids to Navigation Department, and the Emergency Rescue Team of the Fuzhou Rescue Base of the Donghai Rescue Bureau Ministry of Communications to give academic reports; the academic exchange session invited five award-winning authors in the 2022 Annual Academic Conference of Fujian Institute of Navigation to give paper exchanges. Focusing on the cutting-edge technology of navigation and shipping, combined with their engaged scientific and technological fields, they analyzed the economic and industrial development of Fujian Province, Fuzhou shipping and ports, and other fields, and shared the advanced information of science and technology so as to promote better development of shipping and port economies in Fujian and Fuzhou.
After the academic presentation, awards were also presented to the 10 winning authors in the call for papers in 2022 Fujian Navigation Conference.

The two-day forum came to an end and was a complete success. It is believed that through this forum activity, the delegates can benefit from it, and achieve the consensus for the common development of navigation and shipping enterprises, and work together as builders, promoters and witnesses of the development of navigation, shipping and port economy.
