Shipmaster & Chief Engineer Salon 2022 Of China Institute Of Navigation Was Held In Beijing

The 2022 Shipmaster & Chief Engineer Salon of China Institute of Navigation (CIN) was held in Beijing on June 24, 2016, ahead of the 12th Day of the Seafarers. At the meeting, the working platform mechanism of shipmaster & chief engineer salon of CIN was announced. Nearly 100 guests from industry associations, crew management companies and other units (including 32 shipmasters and 19 chief engineers) participated in the salon online and offline.

This salon, co-sponsored by CIN and COSCO Shipping Seafarer Management Co., Ltd, aiming to build a platform for shipmasters and chief engineers to exchange views, share ideas and collide thoughts. Through meaningful campaigns, strong organization, warm service and great spirit, we can build a warm and reliable home for all marine technological workers, and strengthen the sense of pride, gain and identity of frontline maritime workers.

He Jianzhong, president of CIN, attended the salon and extended holiday greetings and sincere gratitude to the seafarers. He pointed out that the seafarers, including shipmasters and chief engineers, are the carriers and practitioners of maritime culture and spirit in the new era. From the crew members, we can see the patriotic spirit of loving the motherland and serving the people, the struggling spirit of facing the difficulty without fear and being hardworking and enterprising, the innovative spirit of pioneering and daring to be the first, the scientific spirit of being realistic and pragmatic and scaling new heights, the professional dedication to duty despite pitfalls, the team spirit of solidarity and cooperation, the enterprising spirit of working hard and pursuing excellence, the devotion to job without regard to fame and fortune, and the cooperative spirit of peace, friendship, openness and inclusiveness.

He Jianzhong said that shipping industry is a basic, strategic and service-oriented industry for economic and social development. Through the hard work and dedication of generations of seafarers, China's shipping industry has made important contributions to the high-quality development of economy and society and the expansion of opening-up. Looking forward, there are still many challenges, such as a large amount of crew members in the overall construction of China's seafarers, but a shortage of high-quality talents; a large market demand, but insufficient source of crew; important position responsibility, but treatment and professional honor to be improved; and many management regulations, but the level is not high.

To this end, CIN will build a platform, set up Salon Window on official website and Weibo, and open to shipmasters and chief engineers. We will cooperate with COSCO Shipping Seafarer Management Co., Ltd. and other units to jointly build the "home for all marine technological workers" with the shipmaster and chief engineer as the main body, and establish communication platform for shipmasters and chief engineers in China Maritime Academic Conference and periodicals including Navigation Of China and Marine Technology. The forum for shipmaster and chief engineer will be set up during the World Seafarers' Day and China Maritime Day, and more communication opportunities will be provided for shipmaster and chief engineer through the Asian Maritime Academic Annual Conference and the World Maritime Science and Technology Conference. The Institute will take the advantages of China’s nautical Think Tank and hold annual seminars on the crew construction. We will further give full play to the important role of shipmasters and chief engineers and other technical workers, and promote the normalization of the working platform mechanism of shipmasters and chief engineers’ salon. That is how we can contribute to building a high-quality crew team and accelerating the process of building China into a country with strong transport network, maritime strength and shipping industry.

At the meeting, Liu Gongchen, Song Jiahui, former chief safety officers of the Ministry of Transport, and Li Shixin, former deputy director of the Maritime Safety Administration of MoT, as the representatives of old shipmasters, recalled the extraordinary years when they overcame difficulties and mastered skills. Senior shipmaster Ni Di, chief engineer Hu Jiaqin of COSCO Shipping Seafarer Management Co., Ltd, and dispatched shipmaster Qian Feng of China Marine& Seamen Service Corp., as the representatives of shipmasters and chief engineers of the new era, discussed the story of seafarers about how they live beneath the waves and bravely act as pioneers in the new era.
