The State Key Laboratory of “Navigation and Safety Technology” has moved and is being built in Shanghai Ship and Shipping Research Institute (SSSRI). The large cavitation tunnel laboratory in it is planned to adopt the scheme of independent design and construction which has already been completed. Entrusted by China COSCO Shipping Co., Ltd., CIN held a review meeting on “Independent Design and Construction Scheme of Large Cavitation Tunnel” in Shanghai from April 14 to 15, 2021.
Firstly, CIN organized relevant experts to inspect the Laboratory on the afternoon of April 14. He Jianzhong, President of CIN, Xu Zuyuan, former President of CIN and other leaders and experts visited and inspected the construction of such major experimental facilities as deep-water towing tank, navigation safety tank, large cavitation tunnel, and etc, accompanied by Xu Lirong, COSCO chairman / Party Secretary, and Sun Yunfei Deputy General Manager / chief accountant.
Then, the Institute convened the review meeting on the independent design and construction scheme of large cavitation tunnel on April 15. The meeting was presided over by President He Jianzhong, and was attended by 25 conferees including experts from CIN, Wuhan University of Technology, China Classification Society, Marine Design and Research Institute of China, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai Zhenhua Port Machinery (Group) Co., Ltd., Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd., and China Academy of Aerospace Aerodynamics and representatives from China COSCO Shipping Co., Ltd and SSSRI. Xu was appointed as the chairman of the review committee, and Yan Xinping, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the vice chairman. The review committee listened to the introduction of the scheme, reviewed the technical feasibility and risk analysis and other report materials, and conducted detailed questioning and discussion.
The Review Committee believes that the independent design and construction of large cavitation tunnel project is of great significance to enhance China’s capabilities in major engineering and technology in navigation as well as the scientific research and test of the Laboratory. The committee agreed that the scheme passed the review and put forward valuable opinions and suggestions. SSSRI will further refine and improve the construction scheme accordingly, so as to ensure the high quality of the construction of the large cavitation water tunnel laboratory.
