2020 Silk Road Maritime International Cooperation Forum held in Xiamen

  On the afternoon of September 8, 2020 Silk Road Maritime International Cooperation Forum was officially held in Xiamen International Convention and Exhibition Center.

  With the theme of “Silk Road Shipping: route to high quality development”, this forum has set up keynote speeches, the release of “Silk Road Shipping” express routes, the awarding of new members of “Silk Road Shipping” alliance, the research results of “Silk Road Shipping” service standard system and the release of “Silk Road Shipping” blueprint around the vision of “Sharing Prosperity Through Cooperation and Connectivity”.

In December 2018, on the basis of the construction of the “Maritime Silk Road” core area, Fujian Province took the lead in developing “Silk Road Shipping”. It aims to create service standardization, convenient operation and intelligent management for new “Belt and Road” shipping logistic service brand and platform.

On September 7, 2019, the first Silk Road Maritime International Cooperation Forum was successfully held in Xiamen, laying a solid foundation for the further development of “Silk Road Shipping” platform.

In the past year, the first batch of provincial support policies for “Silk Road Shipping” has been issued, the First Eastbound International Multimodal Transportation Block Train has been launched, the “Silk Road Shipping” alliance has been put into normal operation, the “Silk Road Shipping” (Forain Smart Station?)/automatic meteorological observation station has been built and put into operation, and the container ship “HMMGDANSK” with the world's largest loading capacity berthed at Xiamen port. Tianjin Port Group CO., LTD and Korean Hyundai Merchant Marine have joined “Silk Road Shipping” alliance. The first voyage of the “Silk Road Shipping” express route of Fuzhou port, the official opening of the “ direct picking up of imports” channel of the “Silk Road Shipping” express route and other important events have pushed the development of port shipping cooperation, logistics services, economic and trade exchanges, and opened a new chapter in the construction of Fujian “Maritime Silk Road”.

At present, there are 183 members of “Silk Road Shipping” alliance, including the world's top 20 container shipping companies, such as Hyundai Merchant Marine and SITC International Holdings Co., Ltd etc; the top ten ports at home, such as Shandong Port Group and Xiamen Port Holding Group Co., Ltd; the important ports along the “Belt and Road”, such as Poland Gdansk Port and Hambantota Port in Sri Lanka; high-tech enterprises, such as the Shipping News Network, Jingyi Software and Sanabiothe; universities like China Waterborne Transport Research Institute , Jimei University, the Belt and Road Research Institute of Xiamen University and other universities and scientific institutions.

“The service standard of “Silk Road Shipping” has covered port services, transit support services, multimodal transport services, etc., involving the improvement of comprehensive efficiency of multiple logistics links, such as joint inspection of ships, passage of channels, container handling, collection and distribution, sea rail transport, international transit and inner branch line transport. From January to August 2020, 1599 flights of 62 “Silk Road shipping” named routes have been launched, and the container throughput has reached 1,423,400 TEUs.

The forum was hosted by People’s Government of Fujian Province and CIN. The participants included representatives of major ports along the Maritime Silk Road, world-famous shipping companies, logistics and trade enterprises, academic institutions, industry associations, etc.
