The Third Academic Conference of Maritime Remote Sensing Committee of CIN in Shanghai

On November 25, 2016, the Third Academic Conference of Maritime Remote Sensing Committee ( hereinafter referred to as MRSC) of CIN was held at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The conference is a parallel session on Earth Observation Traffic Application under the 3rd China High Resolution Earth Observation Annual Conference and it embodies strong support from the ad hoc office for major issues of High-resolution Earth Observation System for the integrated application of traffic remote sensing in military and civil affairs. The conference was chaired by Luo Lun, Deputy Secretary General of MRSC, and Liu Ying, Vice Director of the Academic Exchange Department of CIN, participated the conference. More than 60 participants attended the conference, including members and representatives of MRSC, special experts, etc.

The theme of this conference is “Integrated Application of Remote Sensing in Maritime Affairs”. Wang Yongming, Secretary General of MRSC, delivered a keynote speech titled ‘Application and Development of Remote Sensing in Transportation’. Liu Hao from China Maritime Search and Rescue Center and Bing Lei from Yantai Oil Spill Emergency Technical Center shared their application reports on the role of Maritime Search and Rescue Center in response to national major tasks and how remote sensing technology could provide technological support for scientific maritime regulation respectively. Experts including Zhong Jinsong from Institute of Electronics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Sun Hequan from PLA Dalian Naval Academy, Li Yan from National Marine Environmental Forecasting Center and Liu Jianqiang from National Ocean Satellite Application Service, etc, also addressed the conference on topics such as SAR imaging mechanism on sea surface, improving marine hydrological and meteorological support by using remote sensing data and carrying out oil spill model error analysis and oil spill drift prediction based on satellite remote sensing oil spill distribution chart.

As the only parallel session on industrial application, the conference was a great success. The reports therein won wide attention and recognition from the participants and also a gratifying interactive atmosphere was created. Lin Rong, Vice Director of MRSC and Deputy Director of China Transport Telecommunications & Information Center, extended his gratitude to all the participants as well as the organizing committee of the 3rd China High Resolution Earth Observation Annual Conference for its support for the transportation industry in his concluding speech and promised that MSRC would strive to build a high-end platform for academic exchanges.

With the development of technology, remote sensing will play a greater role in maritime sector and thus it will drive the development of modern transportation. MRSC shall continue taking independent innovation as the driving force and giving full play to its role of as a bridge and link so that it can make greater contribution to the application and sustainable development of remote sensing in transportation.
