Project Progress Report by CIN on the International Alliance of Port and Shipping Science and Technology at the Experience Exchange meeting by CAST on the "Belt and Road" Science and Technology Alliance Projects

On December 29th, 2020, China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) held an experience exchange meeting on developing and establishing the Belt and Road science and technology regional organizations or alliances, at which China Institute of Navigation (CIN) introduced the related project progress achieved by the Belt and Road International Alliance of Port and Shipping Science and Technology.

At the meeting, Peng Yan, deputy secretary general of CIN, introduced the work carried out by CIN in building its organizational system, pooling domestic resources and participating in international activities since the Belt and Road International Alliance of Port and Shipping Science and Technology project was approved in July 2020. Based on the International Maritime Organization (IMO), International Association of Institutes of Navigation (IAIN) and other international liaison organizations, CIN has actively made preparations for the Alliance by relying on its membership and expert resources and taking advantage of academic exchange platforms such as the Maritime Day of China Forum and the Silk Road Maritime International Cooperation Forum. Next year, CIN will seize the opportunity of taking over as the president of IAIN to accelerate the integration of resources and to steadily promote the implementation of the project.

Yin Lin, deputy director of Division of International Organizations of Department of International Affairst of CAST, delivered a speech at the meeting. She pointed out that guided by the principle of having infrastructure connectivity, unimpeded trade, financial integration and people-to-people bonds as priorities in serving the “Belt and Road” Initiative, according to the document "Vision and Proposed Actions Outliined on Jointly Building Silk Road Economic Belt and 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road” by related national departments, CAST focused on the aspect of “people-to-people bonds”, strengthened exchanges in science and technology and visits with countries along the “Belt and Road” Initiative, complied with the national strategy and the overall arrangements of CAST and strove to enhance the influence and authority of China’s scientific and technological communities in international scientific and technological organizations. Since the implementation of the project in 2016, many societies have achieved sound results and accumulated abundant work experience. This experience exchange meeting is to provide the undertakers with the opportunity to learn from each other so as to constantly revise guidelines and avoid detours.

The meeting was organized by GNSS and LBS Association of China (GLAC), at which project undertakers also shared their work experience, such as Chinese Nurse Association, Chinese Institute of Electronics, China Highway and Transportation Society, Chinese Medical Association, China Instrument and Control Society, Chinese Mathematical Society, GLAC, Hubei Youth Science and Technology Center, etc.
