China's Independent Integrated FPSO's Delivery to Brazil Has Set a World Record for the Heaviest Haulage

For the first time, the world-class FPSO(Floating Production Storage & Offloading facility) P67 independently integrated by China was successfully delivered to Brazil in Qingdao on May 16. As the most complex and the most technically demanded FPSO project with the largest quantity, delivered abroad by China at present, its successful delivery will further strengthen the cooperation between China and countries along the "Belt and Road" initiative in the energy sector, and at the same time boost the pace of "Made in China" to go global.

The FPSO is the mainstream production device for exploiting offshore oil and gas field development, and it is capable of processing, storing, and exporting offshore crude oil and natural gas. Known as "Offshore Oil & Gas Treatment Plant", it is a comprehensive large-scale offshore oil & gas production base integrating personnel residence and production command systems.

According to the introduction, the P67FPSO has an overall length of more than 300 meters and a total width of about 74 meters and the deck area is equivalent to 3 standard football fields. Its operating depth is 2200 meters, with a maximum oil output of 150,000 barrels per day, oil storage capacity of 1.6 million barrels, natural gas processing capacity of 6 million standard cubic meters per day, and a living building and helicopter platform for 158 people to work on. Its maximum displacement is 350,000 tons, five times as much as that of the "Liaoning" aircraft carrier. Its displacement and production capacity rank among the largest FPSOs in the world, making it a "giant" at sea.

The P67FPSO's holder is Petrobras. In May 2015, CNOOC's Offshore Oil Engineering Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as COOEC) contracted for the detailed design, procurement, partial module construction, transportation, and the whole ship's integration, debugging, towage, delivery of P67FPSO and P70FPSO.

According to reports, the P67FPSO with a weight of 80,000 tons will be loaded onto the World's largest semi-submersible carrier sailing to Brazil by dry tow, using the way of "big boat transport". The entire voyage lasts 45 days and sails about 12,000 nautical miles, making the transport load and distance of the "dry tow" operation unprecedented in the world.

Upon arrival in Brazil, the P67FPSO will be used in the pre-salt oil fields of Brazil's Santos Basin in the south-east of the country, a super-large field that has propelled Brazil directly to the top spot in Latin America. Its construction and delivery has also received high attention from the Brazilian government.

COOEC’s Chairman and President Jin Xiaojian told the reporter: "The successful delivery of P67 has further enhanced the company's general contracting and management capabilities in offshore engineering, and the development prospects after entering the South American oil market also merit further attention." He disclosed that, at present the COOEC actively promotes international cooperation and overseas layout in Russia, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Africa and other countries and regions along the "Belt and Road" initiative, and has successfully delivered more than 10 large well-known overseas projects including Yamal, Ichthys, Zawtika.
