Spain's Most Advanced Automated Wharf: TTI Algeciras Wharf

TTI Algeciras wharf of Port of Algeciras is the most advanced automated container wharf in Spain. It is the earliest adopter of the vertical automated operation mode, being the first important wharf in the Mediterranean area using semi-automatic operation mode. TTI Algeciras began operating in May 2010, being able to handle 18,000 TEU-class container ship.

TTI Algeciras, located in the Mediterranean Sea, is the main gateway of this region’s import and export and its transit hubs. TTI Algeciras, with its advantageous geographical position, became the best transit port connected to west Africa and south America. At the same time, TTI Algeciras is the logistics distribution center of Europe, Africa ( including Spain, Portugal, the Canary Islands, North Africa).       

Loading and unloading equipments in Algeciras port including a variety of shore crane, mobile crane, container cranes, rocker crane and ro-ro facilities, as well as a oil pipeline with the diameter of 101.6 ~ 304.8 for loading and unloading oil. The MONOBUOY sea berths, with water depth of 60m, can anchor 500,000 deadweight tons of VLCC. The port has a underwater tubing with the diameter of 1066.8mm, with the loading and unloading rate of 12,000 cubic meters per hour. In addition to crude oil, major import commodities includes coal, timber, steel, cement, pulp and groceries. The main export commodities are grain, grass, cork, fish meal, paper, canned fish, citrus and petroleum products.

Algeciras ranked 31st in the world’s top 100 container wharfs in 2015. Algeciras TTI is not the only automated wharf in Spain. In 2013, BEST wharf in Barcelona was put into operation.
