China Maritime Pilots’ Association，member of China Institute of Navigation, has played an industrial leading role in the prevention of the COVID-19 epidemic. With the support of the leaders of various pilotage institutes and the day-and-night hard work of more than 20 pilots, the “Pilot’s English Manual for Preventing COVID-19” has been completed recently. The manual covers various preventive measures and protection requirements. In particular, English responses and examples are given for the working scenes and specialized English words that are often encountered in the pilotage operation during the pandemic, which can help pilots to master the knowledge of COVID-19 prevention and control. And it is of great significance to complete the heavy tasks of Chinese and foreign ships entering and leaving Chinese ports, to supervise and to assist foreign ships in and out of Chinese ports.
This manual can also be used for reference by navigators. To meet the needs of seafarers and pilots to know more knowledge of COVID-19 and relevant English expressions, China Institute of Navigation and China Maritime Pilots Association will organize the relevant personnel to expand, adapt and improve the content on the basis of the first edition.
We hope that members of CIN and maritime practitioners will make concerted efforts to offer advice for the adaptation and expansion of the second edition of the manual, and provide more detailed information so as to make positive contributions to the fight against the epidemic and the completion of shipping and pilotage tasks.
